Well, my v2 head arrived today and I immediately unpacked it and compared it to my original which I got from China. It appears that the folks in Australia were correct when they said that the v2 only cleaned up the molds and made the manufacturing more reliable. I took pics of the original and the v2 side by side:

The v2 is on the right and it is the chrome plated version. If anything, the chrome version only accentuates the rough machining more. Blade alignment is okay, however I never had a problem with blade alignment on my original.

One thing that I hoped they improved on but they did not, is that the blade is totally flat and does not angle downward toward the safety bar. This makes for needing to be very careful about riding the cap when shaving.

First shave will probably be on Friday as that is when I shave with a Feather AC razor. From the looks of things, I am not expecting the shave to be any different.

First shave tonight with the shiny chrome v2 head. Since they did not change the design of the head between the original and the v2, I wasn't expecting much difference in the shave. As before, I had to ride the cap in both my WTG and ATG passes to get something close to a smooth shave. Both passes was very efficient, but not the most comfortable. For my XTG pass along my jaw line and under my chin, I switched my angle and attempted to ride the bar. It was still not the most comfortable of passes, however I think that because most of my whiskers were gone by that time, it was efficient enough to give me a BBS.

In comparing the original satin finish head on a brass handle and the v2 shiny chrome head, I would rate them both identical in shave quality, which has much to be desired.

Again, anyone looking at the Yaqi being a poor man's Vector should put that thought out of your mind immediately. A poor man's Vector is one that you find on BST.

On The Wet Shaving Co. (ex Yaqi Shaving AU), there's the pre-order of V3 version.
The Excalibur geometry of the new head will be a little different.
The Raster / Rapier razor will be with heavy handle.

Some infos from a Yaqi beta tester.

The new V3 is wider (16mm vs 13mm) and slightly higher than the previous one.
Has a different blade fixing system, to solve the alignment problems encountered in some examples of the first production.
In addition, the classic cylindrical threaded pin has been introduced where the handle is screwed in a recessed position.
Istead of the flat and central one in Blackland Vector style.

Aggression should be similar, with a significant gap.
But with a pronounced safety bar, to mitigate exposure.
The first prototypes of the V3 have the safety bar as smooth as the V2.
In the description on thewetshavingco.com it is "Closed Comb Cobbled YAQI SE Head".
I have no news about it, we have to wait for the first official photos.

Darn! Now I got to get a v3 since it seems they solved a couple of problems I had with v1 and v2. Or maybe I should wait for v9 which should come out by the end of June at the rate they have been releasing these.

These both look like the center post is crooked. I guess doesn't affect the shave? I couldn't justify paying money for something like this ... it would just bug me.

Great that they got rid of the cut shaft design since that was probably causing some of the blade alignment problems. Also very good to put the alignment tabs on the cap so you can keep it upright when putting on the base plate. This time around, I will wait until they sell just the head only on Aliexpress (or on the AU site). After three versions in two months, it is best to wait.
