Does anyone know what happened to this vaunted shave cream? I bought one about five years ago or so and loved the performance, hated the scent. I've seen comments in various forums about its demise but nothing concrete. It was so highly regarded that its disappearance seems odd. If it were available I'd be tempted to buy the unscented, though, truth be told, i have creams that perform as well as XPEC. Though it was remarkable how you could just touch the brush to it and come away with enough lather for two or even three passes.

I agree. The scent was revolting. But it was so easy to lather and incredibly slick. As far as slickness and cushion, for me Truefitt & Hill are just as good. And about half the price.
To my surprise, some inexpensive creams give me the same kind of smooth shave I got from XPEC but they take more work to lather. Nothing you need a back brace for, but just a bit more effort. Included in that category are Arko's creams, Nivea's, and even good old Palmolive if I face lather with it.
Recently I tried Castle Forbes. The jury is still out on that one. It has lots of fans so I want to give it a few more shaves before I offer an opinion.
Please bear in mind the first rule of wet shaving: YMMV. How often have I used a product I loved only to read reviews saying, "Horrible. It dissolved my face. Had to go to the ER. And it insulted my wife . . . ." I do think, though, that while people were divided about the XPEC aroma, most shavers agreed it was superb. A notable exception is Chris Bailey from youtube, who opined that St. James's creams were superior at a much lower cost.
