This will be a good one, looking forward to it! The Timeless almost won the other shave off championship, so it will be my favourite.
Plus I purchased one a few months ago, and I love the shaves it gives! Smile

I detect a slight bias  Big Grin  You should have to do the test blindfolded!

Honestly no bias on my part but I love the idea of a blindfolded Shave.. I’m thinking that would really test a person’s technique. Doing a shave by feel alone.. ok now I got to do it only I know one thing though, I won’t be using a Ikon Tech to try to do it!  LOL!

No not the ikon tech, that would be the massacre of the innocents for sure.  Blindfolded would be a definite test of your technique and muscle memory.  Reminds me of the training my son did when he played University basketball.  His shooting coach would make him shoot free throws with his eyes closed.  Its all about the muscle memory, technique and form - swish.

I agree it’s all about muscle memory and in the case of shaving as I’ve posted I do skin stretching so I’m always feeling my way through a shave anyways so being a very curious person I’ve got to try doing a blind shave.  Yeah using an Ikon Tech may  make for a quick trip to the ER. Lol

I’m thinking a well balanced, maneuverable,  smooth shaving razor would be what I would use.
A Ti Timeless  or maybe my Gillette President or something like that but now I’m gonna have to do it on my next in between Shave Off Shaves.  Like tomorrow.
I’ll post it up for fun. Lol

Timeless Ti .95 DC vs Gamechanger Jaws

So picked these two names out of the box and this may turn out to be a good one. I"ve very familiar with the Timeless and I've Shaved with the Gamechanger with different plates on it since it's release but never the Jaws baseplate so this should be a fun one. I'll do the Shave Off for tomorrow morning's work shave and I'll report back when I get home from work.

As always I'm looking for predictions on which one will take this Shave Off.

Thanks all

Shave Off Report:

Timeless Ti .95 DC vs Gamechanger Jaws

Ok guys I'm sorry for the delay in reporting this last Shave Off.. life happens. Last night I planned on writing up the report and after dinner I decided to watch a little News and don't I go and fall asleep on the sofa and next thing I know it's 3pm and got to get up a 6:45 am so obviously I hit the sack for what seemed like 3 minutes before the alarm went off.

Anyway when I pulled these two razors out of the box I was like ok this may be a very good match up from reviews I read on the GC Jaws which I have never shaved with before as I have only shaved with the . 84. The head on the Jaws and of course the name puts an impression in the mind that this thing must be a real badas* efficiency monster that's going to chew your face up if you make any mistakes but it was no so which I'll get into a bit later. This razor is heavier than the Timeless Ti but I have to say it had good balance and it's certainly not the heaviest razor I've shaved with so no complaints on the weight. Fit and finish is pretty good for the price of entry on this razor but not quite in the same league as the Timeless Ti in my opinion but a nice all around razor and I see why this razor is so popular. The Timeless another popular higher end razor in Titanium is one of the smoothest modern day razors I've used nicely efficient. A razor I pick up quite often. Plus I got to meet the whole Timeless crew at the Maggard show last year which is when they first showed the High Polished Ti and I got to say that is one group of nice people. Fun to talk to as their always joking around but they definitely take their razor making business seriously even though it's not their primary business as many of you already know.

So I'll say this just for a bit of a short tease this was not one of those so close I had to wait Shave Offs.. the winner was plain to see or should I say feel at the end of this Shave Off. So I'll get right to it and try to make this one a short write up as I'll have to pick two more razors tomorrow morning for the next Shave Off. So I'm a little behind schedule here.

NOTE: I used only the OC side of the Timeless to keep things fair.

Gear used:

Razor - Gamechanger Jaws
Razor - Timeless Titanium DC .95
Blades - Once used Feathers
Shave soap & Aftershave PAA Atomic Bay Rum
Timeless shave bowl
Brush - WCS - Synthetic

As normal I did a 2 pass no touch ups shave going both WTG and ATG. Also as normal I used my SSSST technique.

1st Pass WTG - I started with the Timeless Ti on my right side face for the N to S pass and it was as normal very smooth and efficient enough to effcetanley take down a good amount of stubble on this first pass when especially when I only have 2 days growth. I'm so confident with this razor I had some fun on my cheeks and did a couple of X patterns which really works well on big open areas like the cheeks and neck areas. Around my mouth was a breeze and I even pushed it going right on the edges of my lips. Under my nose even with it's pretty high profile head I have no problems getting under it and grabbing all the hair. Awesome pass. I pick up the GC and of course the first thing you notice is the weight difference but again this razor has pretty good balance so got the feel for it immediately and going down my neck and over my nasty cowlick it was easy to tell that this razor had more blade feel and was audibly louder but I noticed the face feel wasn't really smooth and when looking at the end of the OC combs they were a little squared and somewhat sharper than some of the other OC's I have and sort of reminded me of a Long Comb I had that wasn't really what I'd call harsh feeling but also not as comfortable as some other New Type razors I've shaved with and this Jaws kind of reminded me of that razor. It was however doing a decent job of taking down my stubble and I even tried a couple of X patterns on my neck and it worked out fine. So a good pass. I wanted to see how it felt on my left side on my cheeks and really nothing changed and I even played with the angle a bit to see if I could smooth it out a bit as far as face feel and it helped a little as I kept changing the angle depending on where on the face I was. Around my mouth it was ok but I'd not shave onto my lips like I did with the Timeless. With it's low profile head it was absolutely no issue getting under my nose.  So finished up the pass and another what I'd call good pass. On to the last WTG pass on my neck on my left side with the Ti and it was a fast smooth great pass. Again doing some X patterns it was much easier to do with the Timeless than he CG. So WTG pass over and I rinsed my face and took a quick feel before lathering up again and at this point the Timeless was in the lead as far as taking down my whiskers. I thought to myself well maybe the GC will catch up on the next pass as I've seen other razors do in some of the Shave Offs I've done.

2nd Pass ATG - Ok this time we start out with the Jaws at the base of my neck on my right side for trip North. I gave my skin a good stretch in an effort to see if the GC could get as close as possible on this WTG pass and it did do a better job than on the WTG pass as their obviously was less hair to mow down. Again not especially smooth as far as face feel and I felt it more so on the bottom part of my neck. If I were giving RR and feedback on what I think they could improve on this razor I'd say make the combs a little rounder and buff the heck out of the edges of the combs and I think it would be a smoother razors as I would not buy this baseplate and if I were to get a GC I'd opt for the .84 SB plate as I liked the feel of that quite a bit better than this one but the 84 would have not made it into this category as if I had to put it in one it would have fallen in what I call the " Moderately Efficient Category " Anyway finished the pass and continued up my face only now with the Timeless and sorry guys but just a pleasure to shave with this razor. Smooth as butter and yet deceptively efficient. No issues anywhere on my face going ATG with the Ti and got a excellent pass once again. So with the Ti in hand I headed over to the left side of my neck and this was the fastest pass of this Shave Off as I took longer than normal strokes on this pass and boom it was over! Great pass! Ok so the last pass with the CG on my face and going ATG with this razor on my jawline wasn't to bad and on my cheeks as well but around my mouth was not the most comfortable shave I've had and I even noticed a slight hesitation on my chin that was not there in the WTG pass so I checked my pressure and that was fine but the razor just wasn't anywhere near as smooth as the Ti Timeless going ATG. At least on my puss! finished up the pass and I was kind of glad this was over to be honest.

Post shave:

Rinsed with warm water and then cold. Dried my face put a little unscented iced cold Thayers on from the fridge and proceeded to clean up my gear while it dried. When it did I gave my face a nice healthy splash of the PAA Atomic Bay Rum AS splash and I have to say I have never been a big Bay Rum person as I don't like clove and this version doesn't have any in it and I actually like the scent and for me it's the best Bay Rum I've smelled. I even got some compliments at work from the ladies there saying ' you smell good today, what's that scent. So a good thing right when the ladies approve.  Anyway I let that dry and took a face feel and it was pretty easy to tell the Timeless had given me a closer smoother shave. All the areas of the face where the CG had shaved was a DFS while the Timeless had mostly BBS with only the small area along my right ear where I have some weird patterned growth did it leave a DFS.

Summary:

So Don't really think I need the Scoring System to call the Timeless the winner of this Shave Off in all areas but I want to stay consistent so I'll score this on up. In fact I'll have to say I think if the RFB would have met up with the CG it would have been in the next round. So the Timeless moves on to the next round while the GC gets knocked out in the first round.

I'm kind of surprised. I don't have the Ti Timeless .95, but I have the SS Timeless .95 open comb. For me, the Jaws is a more efficient shave than the Timeless .95 open comb. (Although the Timeless Bronze .78 open comb is more efficient than either, on my face.) I just can't get the close shave I expect with the Timeless .95 open comb in stainless.

Yeah I was expecting more out of the Jaws but it was not as efficient as the Timeless for me. Also it wasn't very smooth with this Jaws plate on it and actually not even close on smoothness compared to the Ti which to me is smoother than the SS .95. Also as I always say. I do a whole lot of skin stretching so sometimes razors acts differently for me than others who use a more traditional 3 pass long stroke technique where they don't stretch the skin. that's why I always state it before a Shave Off as others may have a different take on how a certain razor shaves for them if they are using their own technique.  I basically use a DE like a STR8 my left hand is always a couple of inches behind my razor head stretching the skin as I move along. One other factor is I didn't like the teeth on the Jaws. I think they could use some rounding out and buffing and it would be a lot better shaver if I were giving RR my feedback of what I thought of it. Of course again just my 2 cents.

Also thank you for posting up your experience using both of these razors. That's what makes these threads fun and informative for others to read and sometimes use as a reference when choosing a razor..

Great shaves my friend!
