Maybe just stick to the Masamune and the Silversmith?

I don't have the masamune anymore. I might get one again though it worked really well. And for sure I'm keeping the silversmith forever, it's too smooth and comfortable to let go. RAD is a bitch lol i just want to try every razor that exists.

I prefer a mild DE shave with minimal blade feel -- I don't mind multiple passes. My preferences were Rockwell R3 and Karve SB-A (really liked AA too) -- even the Merkur 34C may be a tad too much blade feel for me.

So, what do you guys think? WR2 0.95mm or 0.85mm?

I can't make any suggestions but will James make custom low gaps? Very few people have tried the sub .95 gaps in the WR2 I imagine.

Hard to know about blade exposure and blade feel for the lowest gaps, I've never seen any exposure numbers for any WR2 gaps.

Tara said that the 0.85mm gap is available if requested but reiterated that James advised that it might be too mild (based on comments from previous users) -- and that no returns would be accepted for this particular gap.

I heeded that advice and stuck with the 0.95mm gap. I'll drop comparison vs. the milder Karve plates, in case that would be useful for those interested in milder gaps.

Thanks. Good to know, re: .85 gap. Actually I have seen references to .75, .85 and .90 gaps in the past from one shaver with a mild beard but that is a sample of one person. I'm a big fan of mild razors and ordered a WR1 .48 recently. Be interested to see comparisons of the .95 to Karve plates or other milder razors.

How is the Karve AA generally, I'm tempted to try that at some point? My best non-Wolfman DEs are the Tatara Masamune and Colonial Silversmith.

The Tatara Masamune is one that piqued my curiosity given the negative blade exposure, but have yet to try it -- not too interested in trying it given that it feels like a lateral move from the Karve SS.

The Tatara Masamune is a very smooth, comfortable and decently efficient shaver. I found it to be comparable to the Karve B Plate but a little bit smoother and more efficient. I've heard that the .95 is very comparable to it. Which is making me consider trading my 1.05 for one to try it out before giving up. The .95 sounds like a solid fit for you.

I've decided that I'm definitely going to trade the 1.05 for a .95 before giving up on it. I heard that there's a considerable difference between the 2.
