Final assessment now that I have shaved with it ~10 times...I just don't think this razor works for me. Going steep(er) gets me the irritation-free shave, but I believe it increases the odds of ingrowns. I never get that with my other razors. Time to sell it t a more deserving den.

Why do you think steep equals ingrown hairs?

.48mm gap with WRH7 handle. The reason that I think steep may cause the ingrowns is that I have not been experiencing them with my other razors, all of which shave at a much shallower angle. And if I go shallower with the WR1, I don't get ingrowns but irritation instead. So WR1 steep = ingrowns and zero irritation and WR1 shallow = no ingrowns but irritation. No win situation for my skin.

Maybe the problem is the 48mm gap. I couldn't even shave with such a thing. The .74 is the minimum for WR1 for me. I sold my .61s, OC & SB because they weren't efficient enough for me. YMMV.

Fwiw I have owned/used wr1 from .48 - .80
The .80 was absolutely awful. Large gap wr1 had to be one of the worst razors I’ve used. I’ll say the same for the .74, BUT, even I couldn’t get a good shave with the .48 to save my life.
.61 is the only wr1 gap I would purchase again. Maybe .67 if I felt squirrelly. Fwiw I haven’t used a de in over a year. I’m all straight razors all the time but have kept my ti wr2’s and plan on getting a ti .61 whenever James opens it up.
Good luck!

I’ve been tempted to try one, but then I use one of my WR2s and I’m like, why bother?!(02-05-2021, 08:19 PM)atxwatch Wrote:(02-05-2021, 02:56 AM)LOOT Wrote: What WR1 you got? I disagree that the WR2 is superior to the WR1. I find it to have less blade feel than a similar efficiency WR1, but the WR1 is more maneuverable, thinner, and I find it gives a more honest, responsive feel. Both work amazing for me and I really enjoy switching between the two, but I really don't understand when people say the WR2 is just outright "better."

I'm with you on that. One is not better than the other, just different. I rotate between the WR1 and WR2 frequently.
