Hello gentlemen, I have a WR1 question but didn’t think it warranted it’s own thread so I thought I’ll ask it here. What WR1 SB or OC gap is equivalent in efficiency to a WR2 1.25 SB?

Why not get 2 razors for the price of one? Let’s pretend 1 side is horrible and doesn’t work for you after you take delivery? How do you know if it’s the OC or SB side that you really love if you only have 1 or the other? Think desert island, 1 razor, lol.
Would you recommend the OC over the SB in the .86 and .94 gaps?
Functional....the knurling of the WRH1 is not only grippy, but what a good looking handle to use on other razors heads you may have! I love it in 100mm, I’m not a small handle lover when I have the choice of 3.75in to 4. The WRH2 is another great handle, more handsome than H1, nice grip and classic aesthetics. Not as grippy as H1 but still super functional, again, I gotta go XL on this one. Had the 7, yeah, pass. I do like the 3 as well, beautiful polished but imo not so much in brushed satin. My opinion, can’t go wrong with an H1 or 2 for your first or second handles. In time, you’ll get both, we always do, lol
Hope my banter helps, lol!

Some of My Favorite Razors include Wolfman Wr2 1.25, Charcoal Goods Lvl2, Timeless.95, Carbon Cx++, and Diamondback?? Any insight would help immensely. Prefer a daily shaver or every other day shaver, highly efficient but not at the expense of smoothness. Thank you.
I haven't shaved with an .80, but if you favor a Lv2, a Timless .95, I'd say .74 would be pleasing to you. Feel wise it is similar to my WR2 1.25 OC. I know that doesn't seem logical, but I find the 1.25 rather mild but efficient.
As for the .94 ... I had to shave with it repeatedly to 'get it.' It is much more blade forward IME, and while it does a great job, I don't think it could suit me as a daily driver.
Of course we are not all playing with the same deck of cards. YMMV is the rule rather than the exception.
You're welcome. I don't know that I can do an accurate comparison. Maybe between a CG Lv2-Lv3 ... a Timeless 95. Hard for me to say.
After I received my WR2 1.55 SB I did an experiment and used it daily for a week or so ... IIRC. No problem. To give some perspective, I tried to love a Timeless .68, an AS-D2 ... a Pils. Sold them. I shaved with the AS-D2 a dozen times trying to find what it was about it that some people loved so much. I couldn't get a decent shave out of it for love nor money.
I used to foul rap the CG Lv 2. I had one in brass and bought another just for the handle. These were SBs and I sold both plates. Got a DC and found the OC side worked for me. Time went on and (don't ask me why) but I got another Lv2 SB and this time I worked hard at finding the sweet spot and did. Now I think I prefer it to the Lv 3 ... at least for daily shaving, but it works for 2 days as well. For 3 days or more I have to go Lv 3.
So I started out loving hyper aggressive razors, but have learned to like medium aggressive as well. I think the .86 is in the middle. A .94 is aggressive ... more so than a WR2 1.55 AFAIC.
On DCs ... I have a few in Wolfman, one in Ikon, and one in CG. I like to do my first pass with the OC and take off the bulk with what I consider the more aggressive side (0C) then do my ATG pass with the SB, which I consider gentler. It's true that you have to rinse twice as much, and it is sort of like shaving with an SE, but I'm in no hurry.
So I can't really say which gap is your best bet, but hope the above explanation might give you something to go with.

My .54 will always have a special place here, it just fits in.....especially if I shave with something REALLY aggressive.
ExtraProtein how do rate the .54 versus the .61 and .67? Just how similar (or different) are they during the shave? As the blade exposure is the same for all 3, is the .67 a more efficient version of the .54? Or something else. I'm going to trade my .54 DC for a single comb but may change the gap at the same time.
And thanks for the handle banter!

The .80 was the first wolfman I ever bought. It’s great. I would love to get one in titanium if that ever becomes possible again.
(09-28-2020, 09:34 PM)Fedsbackhand Wrote:Ughhhh, I always like to bring out positive in products but we spend good money on these things, both monetarily and time. The .54 is just a smooth operator, I’m a PolSilver and Feather fan with it. I wish I could tell you efficiency moves forward as the gap size increases, but for me it doesn’t. It only drags, pulls and tugs. I’ve changed my angles, I’ve gone 5 days growth, 2 days growth and 3 days. The .54 is less efficient than a CG L2, much more efficient than a L1. The smoothness though at multiple angles is what baffles me. The .61 and .67 for ME is a mess. I’ve tried over and over, it’s not worth the effort or blood I’ve put in. An R41 is smoother, bold statement right? Change blades? Of course, that’s the first thing I do. The WR1 smoothness begins at .54 and then returns at .80 and remarkably so. I have pretty smooth skin, so moving across it from many angles is relatively easy. When I use a Wolfie, I shave pretty slow as I’m accident prone and clumsy (don’t want to drop the thing), right there alone I should be gliding a .61 and .67 like a Barber. But that’s not happening, it’s like I’m at a Plastic Surgeon in Tijuana without anesthesia. I went up the ladder with WR1; .54 .61 .67 .74 .80, cancel the middle 3 (zero value in those 3 for ME).(09-27-2020, 03:43 AM)ExtraProtein Wrote: The .80 DC is where the WR1 begins a smoothness the .61 .67 and .74 just doesn’t have.

Do you have a Carbon .68 original plate? A .61 and .67 have the same sort of blade feel imo but NOT the Carbon smoothness. It’s all I can parallel a description to. If you have the opportunity to get either of those plates on loan, do so. My .67 and .61 are gone or I’d offer. My Blackland Tradere filled the space there. The Tradere is a different shave for me than a CG L2 and certainly blows the .61. and .67 plate out of the water. Any Wolfman is a handsome razor, except the ones that don’t work for the individual. Than it’s a sour investment, because they are investments. Tell a commoner you just dropped $355 for a razor and stand, lol. Better yet get a jewelry grade finish and tell your wife you dropped close to $600.
.54 and .80 WR1 Wolfman...the best a man can get..... (I’ll sing again when I get an .86)
