i have an open comb wolfman (and all the open comb above the tie plates) and the wolfman is just incredible.

in a conversation i was having with barrister_n_mann before, he mentioned how much he likes razors that hold the blade so there isn't much flex. the above the tie slants do this, as do the wolfman razors. the blade feels very rigid as it makes it passes and it's really something else.

for what it's worth, the los angeles shave soap company bbs-1 (made by the same guy that makes wolfman razors) is also a next level razor. i'd say it's more efficient than the wolfman, whereas the wolfman is that little bit more comfortable. they can both live side by side in your den... they do in mine!

Yeah, glad I went for the Wolfman, then. I like razors that are more comfortable and less........well, Leisureguy would call them "efficient."

i'm actually for that verbiage.

i think the terms comfortable and efficient are better descriptors than mild and aggressive. the wolfman is a perfect example: the thing gets rid of hair in a far more expedient manner than the skin feel would ever lead me to believe. design at its finest!

I didn't mean to imply that I disagree with his characterization. It just hasn't really penetrated the common discussion yet, so I wasn't sure exactly how to put it. I like the verbiage too, though. I think it's about as objectively accurate as we're going to get.

Wait, a flat DE blade is more rigid? That is the complete opposite of my experience.

My experience has been that slanted DE blades have more torsion on them and thus chatter and flex less, which is why I tend to prefer slants. If Wolfman made a slant, that would have been my choice, but I keep hearing that something about the head geometry of his designs keeps the blades more rigid than other straight-bar DEs, so I'm very interested in them overall.

So far this razor is performing in an extremely efficient manner without 'feeling' super aggressive.  Don't get me wrong, you can tell the blade is doing its work but it does it in a smooth fashion.   I would definitely call it highly efficient.

I'm not ready to say that it has unseated my Above The Tie razors just yet but I definitely like it a lot and it will always have a place among them at the very least.  Time will tellSmile

Oh, and one more thing....  Thanks to Uncle D. for the strong recommendation.  You were rightSmile

Ok Will, we are on the same page then. Interesting to hear the head design may make it more rigid too. I know the Mongoose did the same compared to the Cobra.

Slants were the only DEs that somewhat worked for me & I remember how terrible the flat blade in the R41 was for me.

I have made inquiry about these OC razors, and this thread answered some of the questions I had about the Wolfman.  I am even more excited to try it out now! hopefully the wait will not be too long.   Big Grin

I know you said you recently acquired it, so you don't have ba final opinion yet, but as an initial impression, how do you like it compared to your ATTs?

It is neck in neck at this point although to be fair I have only used it twice.  I'll record a video with it on Saturday and see how it goes.  It feels very efficient but yet smooth.

I will look out for the vid, and very interested in how it compares to the S2.  I use the S2 exclusively right now and plan on getting the OC Wolfman when it becomes available.

I will also chime in and say that James will adjust the aggressiveness. So if u prefer an aggressive razor he can ramp it up a bit. It truly is top notch service!
