aka: The drizzle, The fume, The puddle
im currently on the list and ready to place my order for them but im having a HUGE tough time to decide between the standard blade gap or the .74 modded version.

i know he can mod them later but i am hoping to get it right the first time. he said the mod is closer to the h plate from att and thats the only plate i have not used from att so im not sure how it will shave. i get along fine with nearly any razor but enjoy comfort for sure. my hair is like wire steel and i have a super hard time using a really mild razor like a de89 getting a really good super close shave without many passes.

most seem to really like the mod but nor sure how many have actually done the mod. any thoughts? worst case is ill order the standard gap and have to have him mod it later. but i would prefer not to have to do that.

thanks!

mastershake, I am in the same boat- I have a very thick beard and have been biased this past year+ to what most would term aggressive shavers.

Being the case, I am leaning to starting with the .74mm but vacillate. Also uncertain whether to go brushed or polished.

Decision, decisions and I know not much help Smile

I have a rather heavy beard and I find the standard gap just fine on the Wolfman. If I bought a second base plate I would consider the more aggressive version.

Just had an awesome shave with my standard Wolfman open comb. Would not change a thing. Whatever you decide you'll have a great razor.
(I think I know who No.1 is!)

Go with the standard gap. I think you need to use it a few times before deciding as every razors geometry is a bit different and I dont think we should guess on how it will shave till you can get it in your hand and shave with it.

shake,

I have the same dilemma as you. I also have EJ DE89 and find that I get a better shave when I add two shims. Based on this James suggested to go with the increased blade gap - of course this is ymmv until I actually try it. I'm also going open comb for the first time with the wolfman so not sure that adds to comfort/aggressiveness. I'm thinking of getting the icnreased blade gap and if that doesnt work out sell it and get standard gap (if he is taking orders).

My second post--so exciting!

I had James modify the blade gap on my open comb to.74mm, based on his advice. The ATT H2 is my favorite razor, and James thought this gap would most approximate the H2. I'm glad I took his recommendation. If anything, the Wolfman is a bit too mild. Don't get me wrong, it gets plenty of airplay, but I think it could be a bit more aggressive.

P.S. My frame of reference is the Ikon Shavecraft Tech.

The H2 is my weapon of choice, as well. I've been waffling on whether to get the increased gap when my number comes up, so this is super helpful. Thanks!
