Windows 10

Is anyone using the new OS from Microsoft?

I have the option to upgrade but I am not taking it just yet, I am looking for input from other braver souls before I take the plunge.

I have upgraded my Surface Pro3 and my HTPC to it (only Windows devices in the house.) It seems smoother than 8 and I like that the desktop doesn't disappear when you click on the start button. Haven't done too much with it yet so we shall see.

my wife's laptop has 8.1 on it...I hate it. the next time I have a day off of work, I'll likely upgrade it to windows 10.

Andy, please let us know how you like it. From what I've read elsewhere beware the tracking "stuff" embedded in it. All of it is enabled in settings.

After Microsoft came out with Win8 (the operating system from hell) and now has all of this tracking "stuff" in Win10 I can't imagine why I don't trust them to make an operating system that I want. I have the option of a "free" upgrade but all I need to do is allow them to track my every move and send the data to anyone, and watch me while I eat, and follow me into the bathroom, etc, etc.. It's a brave new world. Of course I may have exaggerated a bit.

W7 here... looking to update to W10 in the near future. But I'm willing to read some opinions on it before making the upgrade...

So far not too shabby. The performance lags I had with Win 8.1 on my Surface Pro3 are pretty much gone. Navigating the new control panel interface isn't hard and its easy to turn off all the possible tracking and reporting. The new Edge browser is leaps and bounds better than IE but not quite as solid as Firefox.

If you think Windows is bad for data harvesting I hope you don't have a smartphone. Most smart phone data harvesting you can't even turn in the settings. I'm not saying it's the right way to do things. But it's increasing becoming more and more accepted to just harvest all of your data without saying anything, at least MS gives you the option to turn it off. Even angry birds does it while you play the game.

That said, I'll be updating my Surface this weekend and if I like it my desktop machine sometime in the next few weeks.

Okay, I just skimmed the article. I want to know why this isn't opt in instead of opt out. No one should have his or her privacy taken away unless permission is given first, not the other way around. Certainly, there should not be so many hoops to jump through.
