The title says it all.

Some folks are mentors at heart. Most beginners want and need advice across a variety of Forum categories, necessitating multiple postings. A great place to meet: "The Novice Nook," or "Getting Started," or "Beginners Bin."

Existing Forum categories are terrific but require a lot of sifting to hit a paydirt Q & A.  Why not simplify experienced answers to noob questions?

Merely one newbies food for thought.

Thank you!

This might be something for andrewjs18 to discuss as he is the administrator as well as one of the moderators.  Any thoughts on this, Andrew?

Ive been thinking about this post and the question for a couple of days and wouldn't you know it?  My response began to coalesce in my brain while I was shaving this morning.  Here goes -

This forum has been around for about 7 years (I think) in its current iteration and in that time a wealth of information has been posted on beginner, novice and expert levels of shaving related matters.  The problem for a newcomer (or anyone else) is that there is so much information buried in the various categories and sub-categories that its become a major undertaking to find specific information when you need or want it.  Although I highly recommend that all members take some time now and then to just wander over old posts and threads (I guarantee that you will find useful information), however, when you're looking for a specific answer to a specific question and there is lather on your face you dont have the time or the patience to do that.  So, unless someone wants to take the time to sift through every post on DFS to gather and categorize information of interest to specific categories such as beginners or novices, there needs to be a better way... and there is! It already exists -  DFS is really a great forum where any member can start a thread or make a post on any (relevant) topic they want.  So, if you're a beginner and have some basic questions and you can't find the answers, start a thread and ask the questions of the members.  I guarantee you will get plenty of excellent responses from members from novice to expert.  You will be far more likely to get the information you're looking for if you ask focused questions rather than just "what does a beginner need to know" type of questions.  This will also be a great way to get to know the members - its a generally friendly and supportive forum so what are you waiting for?  Maybe we can all learn something from the responses to your questions.

Had me there.  Thought we'd be getting a new category.

To help improve our searches for beginning users, I'll suggest that each of we novices include, in the title or tags, the words "Novice," or "Beginner," or some such tag.  Won't help categorize our situations but will, at least enable us to share our experiences and newfound knowledge (from our own searches).

I really doubt we'll add a new sub forum section for this..we already have 5-6 sub forums that hardly get any action as is and when we add new sub forums with the intent to structure content better, someone then needs to go through all existing threads to move them.

more work and time than it's probably worth, in the long run.

perhaps a better option is someone creating a beginner's thread that we can sticky somewhere.

Exactly.  Create a beginner's thread where beginners can go and ask questions.  They'll get responses and it will grow from there.  You have to meet us halfway here - ask and you shall receive.  While there are some members who would have no problem writing various primers on beginner wet shaving topics, the majority of us are more likely to be responsive to direct questions on specific concerns.  Thats the easiest way to get the information you want when you need it.  I still recommend going to the beginning of some of the threads and just browsing for a while.

Are you posting this on every forum you can find?

The whole forum is here to help shavers no matter their level of experience.

If you hide them in a special kindergarten section, no one will see them or be there to help.

If it ain't broke...

Boar brushes, brass razors, and hard pucks ARE traditional wet shaving. Everything else is modern day fluff for the girly men.

It's like the blues, the best stuff comes from dead guys.

I followed my own advice and went back in the General category to 2015. Lots of great stuff and lots of great guys that don’t come around anymore. Even more fun is to see the newbie questions being asked by guys that are now seasoned veterans of the wet shaving wars. Good times.

99.9% of responses are positive, helpful and contribute to the hobby.

Kindergarten?  Really?

I am not responding to this, and other comments by the above author, here and elsewhere. Enough said.
