Why I rinse my soap before I put it away

how can we find out what our local gpg is?

Ask your town office or water district. They keep good reports and records from my experience.

the report for my town doesn't appear to list the gpg, but the some of the areas surrounding me do list theirs. I'm seeing from about 6gpg to 13gpg...I'd assume I'm somewhere within that range.

I recently moved to a new apartment, to be closed to work. I was working through some new soaps and realized I haven’t used mystic water in a while. So last week I took out some MW soaps.I would say I have used MW soaps at least 150 times before.

But in this apartment, I am founding it to be a daunting task to lather mystic water, I can get pretty great lather, but it takes a lot of effort. and even then lather doesn’t look 100% at the end of shave. Today even B&M Glissant gave me minor issues.

I checked for this town’s gpg but couldn’t find anything. But a nearby town reported 25-26 gpg. I guess my easy lathering days are over

I'm not really confident in any report from my local officials.

I live in Toronto and have no idea of how hard or soft the water is.
I do know that a scum will form on my shaving brush handles and the sink after a while.
The sink being white porcelain I can feel it rather than see it.
I discovered quite by accident that a single light spray of a very cheap cologne which I buy for its excellent spray pump ($1 for a 10 oz bottle) will remove the scum with one quick swipe. I do not know what the contents are but I suppose alcohol is a main ingredient.
My brush handles I always have wiped with a damp cloth every time I use one as I do with my lather bowl and my razors and blades. The bristles I hold under running water and use a finger to gently rub them in a circular motion right down to the center of their base. When the slipperiness is gone so is the soap. It only takes a few seconds.
My entire clean up is done daily and takes less than five minutes. It is part of my ritual.

Great post! I always rinse my soaps off when I'm done too. I don't want to come back to it next time with a dry crusty layer of leftover suds on top. Seems logical to me. I haven't experienced any issues with loss of scent or anything either.

Lots of self test kits seem to be available.

Mickey I live in Toronto as well and do get a lot of build up on my razors fast even after polishing them and brushes at times. I don't think we have hard water cause i can lather like 95% of soaps I've used. The only ones that don't lather well are MdC clones like LASSCO, Henri et Victoria, WSP Rustic, etc.

Not sure which part of the city you're in but I'm in an older area with obviously older pipes with not much being updates. I can ask my friend who works for the city what the GPG is for the water in the city.

99 Aspenwood Drive since 1972 when the house was new.
It is 1/8 mile south of Steeles East and half way between
Leslie Street and Don Mills Road.

Since we are up fairly high above the rest of the city we might
get our water from a different source as water likes to flow
downhill rather than be pumped uphill.

There is a high east/west ridge several miles north of here
that is a water source. I can't remember its name.

I am going to post this now so I do not lose it.
I will then try to get the name of the ridge.

It might be The Oak Ridges Corridor Conservation Reserve.

If I find out anything else I will let you know.

I did learn that older parts of the city gets its water from cast iron pipes.
Newer parts use stainless steel pipes.
All of Toronto's water supply is considered exceptionally pure.
I have read that in all tests without exception its purity is superior to any bottled water.

Have you tried vinegar to remove the build up?
