Why do we buy Russian-made blades?

I have a serious question to ask wet shavers from United States / England / Western Europe who use Russian-made DE blades, be it Astra, Rapira Platinum Lux, Voskhod, Sputnik, Sputnik, Lada, Gillette 7 O'Clock, Gillette Silver Blue, Gillette Platinum, Permasharp, Iridium Super,  Nacet, etc.

Russian government's bots and Russian government's trolls continue to spread false information about all sorts of topics, including politics, vaccines on Facebook, Twitter and other social media outlets in order to sow discord and propagate malicious content in the Western countries. Russian hackers hack our accounts and steal our trade secrets. I am fluent in Russian, and I see that Russian government's bots are neither pro-Trump or anti-Trump, for example - they just want to weaken America, NATO countries and its allies.

So why would we support Russian government by buying Russian-made goods (Russian factories pay taxes to Russian government) when there are so many similarly priced quality alternatives to Russian-made blades out there?

We try to keep politics out of the forum, but yeah, Russia is not getting my money. Nacets are probably the only blade I would want from Russia but I can live without them.

Good question. It sucks though because all of my favorite blades are made there.

I find Gillette Wilkinson made in Shanghai for Gillette India pretty darn close to Nacets and Voskhods out there.

Yeah, I'm getting a little cynical in my old age. Back to your original point, I think if you rely on one source for your information you are sunk. Doesn't matter if it's CNN or if it's FOX for instance. A wise man taught me many trips around the sun ago to read that which I disagree if I really wanted to know. One source of information cannot be trusted any more. And it's not so much what they print (lots /is/ in fact fake) but what they chose to leave out. As Ronald Regan said, "Trust but verify". Love the guy or not he's right about this. BTW this was said in reference to the Russians.

I wouldn't purchase a Russian made laptop or smartphone but their blades do no harm, apart from the occasional
weeper.

I have chosen to not buy Russian made blades. My only question: Am I impacting the Russian government or the really nice Russian people working at the factory or both ?

I spend so little on blades overall, and half of what I buy is made in Japan, I'm not too inclined to stop buying Russian blades. If anything, I am more likely to avoid buying Koch Industries subsidiary products than Russian blades since, IMO, many of our current problems start at home.

I see where you're coming from, but I think it's misguided. The KGB isn't running razor blade factories and the people who do aren't making high-level governmental decisions. They're just hard-working normal people. I sell a lot of razors to Russians and they're just passionate wet shavers like the rest of us. I'm sure they dislike some of our government's policies, but they continue to buy from me. What a shame it would be if we stopped buying from good people because of where their taxes go. Should you spend less domestically if a party you dislike is currently in power in the US?

My second point is that trade is a powerful binding agent. Trade can unite countries who would otherwise be enemies so I don't think ceasing trade is ever the solution. I would argue that increasing trade is a better course of action.

Last and least, I don't think the tax from a ten cent blade is currently filling the Kremlin's coffers.
