why do people get banned at shaving sites?

Mayberryman: It is true that negativity without basis is not helpful to anyone, but condemning the bully, the tyrant, and the aggrandizing censor is beneficial in itself. We have no means except our words to speak out about the unjust activities that go on elsewhere, but we should use them - when tools are used sparingly, they tend to rust.

I understand what you are saying Boingo, but keep in mind that this is probably the first thread of its kind on shaving fora. People have a need to express themselves.

Mayberryman I'd agree with you, except that sort of free discussion is simply not allowed on certain other sites. Being able to discuss things freely here is nice, especially since some of us woke up to permanent bans on those other sites for no legitimate reason. Equal exchange was not allowed - what was required was compliance and voicing favorable/unfavorable opinions towards certain brands.

The fact that this discussion is allowed here is in itself the mousetrap.

Sir, from what I have experienced so far I agree with you about the better mousetrap.  My only concern would be that positive reinforcement of this site would be far more beneficial than negative of another.  In all reality I do not disagree with much of what has been posted in this thread but I wonder if what could be perceived as negativity could be used in other forums as a judging tool.

Well, all that being said, I think it is time to shave and take my wife out to Dinner for her 66th birthday.  I might not even make her go through the drive through.  Just kidding, like all men who have been married for over 40 years I know who is boss.  (This March 24th it will be 45 to be exact).

By "just kidding" I'm assuming that you're definitely going through the drive-through  Your wife must be a good sport.  The key to a strong relationship is finding someone who can tolerate you.

To make a long story short - I will be closing my TSN account as of March 1. I will miss interacting with many great TSN  members I grew to appreciate very much, but I am relieved to see many of you on this forum!

You might not miss them for very long.  From the looks of things, it seems likely that they will be here sooner rather than later.

What you and the others have also noted is of particular importance.  Besides the camaraderie, people go to the wetshaving forums for information.  One would hope that the information is reasonably accurate.  When the content is heavily biased due to censorship, especially if that censorship has ulterior motives, the "information" presented is much less accurate than it should be.  I mention that because I have seen some people say they visit censored sites "only for the information".  They would find better quality content in places with free and open discussion.  Damn Fine Shave has a great vibe and steadily growing membership.  That is so good to see!

this is why we don't have a complaint section or some specific forum for people to air grievances...it just begs for negativity and it's not the proper place to really turn it into a habit.

Who cares? I don't see it as whining anyway, just discussing the ridiculousness of being banned from a forum(s) for trivial reasons.

If this place is being called damn whine shave then that tells me that the other forums are a little pissed that people are allowed to say what they want (within reason), and that they can't shut down good, honest discussion. Let them call this place that. Let them have their little circle jerk over it. I love this place for that and the fact that they can't handle the truth, and they have NO CONTROL over the fact that maybe there are differing opinions.

Hell I have said I think it is stupid that RR Joe doesn't put out a major RR stealth slant release for whatever reason he has (I think he would make a sheetload of $$$). Nobody here even questioned my post saying that. It's not a knock on RR at all, and frankly, I'd be embarrassed to admit how many of his soaps are in my den. It is it the best soap out there? No, but it is a solid performer and probably the best deal in wet shaving as far as soaps go.

I'll say that I have lurked for several years on shaving forums, but only joined a couple to take advantage of the B/S/T aspect of them. This is the only one I have really posted on in any detail.

Keep it up mods. The way I see it is that if people are talking about this forum then we are obviously getting under their skin, and it will just bring more traffic here (That could be good or bad lol). Let them have their pity part about this forum on their own site. Boo fing hoo.

Sir, truer words have never been spoken, "Finding someone who can tolerate you". I will add by saying a good sense of humor and being able to listen at times is also important. It has been a very educational journey through life, seeing first hand how two people can actually start to function as one.

I think you are right to encourage a focus on the positive. That being said, if folks are poked with a sharp stick, they are likely to cry "ouch". As for other forums judging us, especially the problematic venues, they are skating on thin ice at best. If other forums like us, then good. If they don't like us, then to hell with them. There is enough good content and community here, very positive things, that the troubled places are no longer needed or relevant.
