IMO, WK has priced himself out of the market for the most and to lend credence to that belief I couldn't help but notice that several of his high priced soaps were drastically marked down at WCS recently. Most people seem to not want to pay more than $20 for artisanal soaps and why should they when they are scads of superb soaps for that under.

I believe there is a shift in the market back towards scent appeal and away from the PSF nonsense as of late.

I don't know but I'm a touch skeptical. The only mark-downs I've seen have been sales, and sales always seem to come by, particularly at this time of year.  At WCS right now I don't see any Wholly Kaw markdowns.  And I was in in Pasteur's today (and did buy the Timmerman, fwiw) and there were plenty of soaps over $30 -- mostly the European soaps, of course, but not exclusively.  And other artisans, like Grooming Department, Ethos, and Tallow + Steel, are over $20 (sometimes over $30) and their products don't hang around long but seem to sell out immediately, or close to it.

Yes, it was a sale. But you don't discount moneymakers in high demand and those were newly introd soaps as well.

You may be on to something. Topofthechain has also heavily discounted some WK soaps, toners, splashes, etc. They look like scents that haven’t been too popular though.

I went and looked at Topfothechain.  Given the huge number of non-sale items if you sort by price of, say, soaps (and there are basically only 4 out of 30 for WK), I don't see it. Looks like some inventory clearance to me.  But time will tell.  In three or four months if we keep seeing WK (or systematically expensive soaps generally) being discounted, that might show something consistent with the hypothesis.

I have Timmermann on order and am looking forward to it's arrival. The Siero base is exceptional imo and the scent appears to be right in my sweet spot. I look forward to it joining other WK soaps in my regular rotation. Shy

I bought it yesterday at Pasteurs.  Largely based upon the scent since -- after all -- there were plenty of fine soaps and soap bases to be found and, to me, scent is pretty much a key arbiter these days.  Not sure when it will get tried for the first time as I'm a bit under water with soaps to try right now (some A&E, GD, and Ethos all sitting and waiting -- a pleasant position to be in, mind you).
