Gents,

I used the Wholly Kaw Fougere Mania in the Siero Base a little bit earlier, and it is a fantastic soap that’s definitely worth a look!

The fragrance has great strength, and it smells similar, though slightly less natural and refined, to the Eufros Dama De Noche shave soap.  I really enjoyed it!

I loaded the damp brush on the soap for 20 seconds, and whipped up the lather in my large singing bowl.  It took 5.5 tsp of water, and the lather was superb in appearance, scent, and performance.

Equipment:

Razor:  “The Celebrated” 16/15 Wade and Butcher circa 1850...this was a Max Sprecher restoration, and he did the blue paua shell scales.

Brush: 28mm Paladin Phantasia

Soap:  Wholly Kaw Fourge Mania - Siero Base

Post-Shave Balm:  Eufros Dama De Noche

Overall I think this is a top tier shave soap, and a slight improvement over the other Wholly Kaw soaps that I have in the mix.

Need to try WK's new base - still deciding between unscented or FM

Sorry I can’t help make up your mind...all personal preference.  FM is nice and similar to Eufros Dama De Noche...it just is not as refined/natural smelling.  It’s quite good though, and I liked it!

Scents preferences are highly subjective, but Fougere Mania is my favorite WK scents, along with King of Oud.

As far as performance goes, it is one of my top soaps.

I think it’s a great base. I only use the unscented variant. This soap literally can just keep taking water for days. I have yet to break it with too much water and have on multiple occasions said to myself...” enough already just get hydrated enough so I can get on with the shave!” Performance in use is great and has good skin ingredients. Just takes on water like a champ.

As RayClem states, scents are highly subjective. I have both the soap and aftershave and have used both several times. While I really like this base, Fougere Mania is not my favorite scent. The OP likened it to Eufros Dama de Noche which just happens to be my least favorite of the 7 Eufros soaps I possess. OTOH, Entropy Man, which dropped on the 10th, looks inviting: scent profile: Notes of Tobacco, Leather, Plum, Rum, Hay, Black Pepper, Frankincense and Vetiver. For me, WK is sporadic with its scents and I have tried a number of them. None are offensive to me but for me getting a soap from this company is a crapshoot when it comes to scent. By far, my favorite remains Lav Sublime and that is one of my all-time favorites. I feel more confident ordering a tub of soap from, say, A&E which consistently demonstrates excellent scent making chops at least to my taste. All that said, the Siero base is superb.

When Wholly Kaw came out with the Buffala formula , I picked up a tub of Spice Vitae. Although the performance was excellent (although not quite as good as Siero), that scent was just not for me. Perhaps it was the Saffron note, I am not sure. Anyway, I gave it away at the Maggard meet-up last June. I hope whomever picked it up, enjoyed both the scent and performance.

I might have to look more closely at Entropy Man.
