If you enjoy a single malt Scotch whisky or a good old fashioned American rye whiskey or any other, what is a favorite? I really enjoy Laphroaig 10 year old, an Islay single malt Scotch and Old Overholt Rye. My choice of rye is interesting because I have had smoother ryes but it is the slight rough feel of Old Overholt that appeals to me.
I tend to lean more towards Speyside and Highland scotches, but Scapa is my jam. I had a couple of 14yo back when they were $50. I got a 16yo for my birthday which my groomsmen and I popped open and finished right before my wedding ceremony.
Otherwise, it's a bottle of Four Roses (or one of their small batches or single barrels) and some ice.

they're my second/third favorite drink, behind a sazerac and sometimes i like manhattans more than old fashioneds, but they tend to duke it out for second place. my favorite old fashioned recipe:

edit: also, i'm a huge fan of lagavulin 16 or 12 (in that order) and bunnahabhain 18 - i've not tried the 12.
