What tools do you use to scoop the soap?

I guess I am in the minority here in that I don't scoop soap. I load the brush in the container and paint afterwards.

Even with soft creams? (Macduffs, GFT, Tobs, etc)

I like to bowl load, too, but those soft creams don't seem like they'd handle it well. I keep a travel bowl and a wooden spoon around for those few 'creams' in my collection.

Same here.  When it comes to the softer soaps, I just don't swirl as much in the container.  I don't use creams very often, but when I do, i'll either dip the tips into the cream and then face-paint or for tube creams (Bigelow, Coate's, etc) just squeeze an almond-sized amount directly onto the brush

Soaps in a container get loaded from a container, Tubes and pucks get loaded in a shave bowl to make lather. I have the green and blue van der hagen shave bowl that came with a puck of soap and brush probably most everyone got from walmart or similar when they first got into wet shaving that I still use to this day, I also don't have alot of soaps. I am mainly a C/O Bigelow and Van Der Hagen soap puck guy. Any other soaps I've acquired were used as part of a deal for a razor(s) I actually wanted.

Gotcha. I was thinking of soaps like this, in the pictures... Which have the consistency of a tube cream without the convenience of being able to squirt them into your own bowl. Kinda short sighted of the manufacturer, honestly. But a spoon or such definitely remedy that.

Fwiw, a finger also works... Just thoroughly wash your hands first, so you don't contaminate your soap. Lol.

Yeah, just because someone posted what they use for a scoop here doesn't mean they scoop all the time. I'm a tub load and face lather guy but I have softer soaps and samples that will occssionally require scooping and bowl lathering. If you only have harder soaps and no samples then you wouldn't need one or you have your own method to work around that need. Different strokes for different folks

There's one of the few cremes worth a damn. WK creme way underrated and this tobacco scent actually works if aired for a week or two.

I use this thing. Not perfect, but does the job well enough.

 

I have two of those. Community Stainless "Paul Revere" pattern, right? I use mine for puddings and applesauce, because it lasts longer. Officially it's a baby "feeder spoon" - for adults to feed babies, not for babies to feed themselves. 
I've been collecting anything from that pattern when I spot them in thrift shops.

I will scoop if I feel that directly loading the brush is unhygenic. This happens with soft soaps seldomly but 100% of the time with creams in tubs. 

I bought a pound or two of elephant ivory scrap a few years ago before the rules became much stricter (this was represented pre-ban material). My thought was to use it for various craft projects. A number of the pieces are long and thin and have beautiful “bark” from the exterior of the tusk. I polished one of these up a bit and use that to scoop.
