The Vector’s Lite baseplate and a Kai Mild blade. A match made in heaven. Smooth as butter. Sharp as a mother-in-law’s stare. One pass. Done. No blood, no burn, no regret.

But here’s the catch: the blade turns to rust faster than a Ford in a Pittsburgh winter. Not the edge, mind you. That stays sharp, whispering sweet nothings to my stubble. It’s the sheath, the wrapping, the thing that keeps it all civilized. Little orange freckles start creeping in after only a few shaves. All told I got seven days and seven glorious shaves out of the blade. But now it’s speckled with oxidation, like an old battleship left too long at sea. Time to toss it.

That's interesting.  FWIW the Kai Captain Titan Protouch MG is my favorite mild blade, and I don't recall ever having any discoloration.  I just binned my last one after 10 shaves - not because it was discolored or more than negligibly degraded, but because I was down to a dime a shave, so why not grab a fresh one?  I'll pay closer attention next time.

A question. Do you guys leave your blades in the razor? Just rinse and let dry?

I’ve probably got a case of OCD but I’ve always taken my blade out after every shave and I spray with 70% alcohol and then rinse both. I always wipe the razor down and with the blade I put it on the small hand towel I always have on the countertop when I shave. I’ve never had blade rust. It sounds like a bit of work but it literally takes me less than a minute to do.

I’m just curious how many just rinse their razors without taking the blade out.

Shave on brothers!
I remove the blade from shavettes and all safety razors except injectors.  I place the blade in a mitten clamp and run each edge under very hot water, rotating the edge through four 90º turns that might be called "top-left", "top-right", bottom-left", and bottom-right".  Hopefully, this removes most or all micro or near-micro debris.  Then each side is pressed gently against a towel, to remove most of the water, after which, the blade is left to air dry.  I air dry my blades on a piece of paper towel or sometimes a sponge, but any absorbent material resting on a dry surface will do.  The important thing is that the material can remove water from the underside too.

The whole procedure takes about a minute for single edge blades, and perhap extra half minute for DEs.

Ditto Tommy C!   You've got some to-die-for kit there Dave - the IColoniali unobtanium, a beautiful Hydro-magic copy, the Ethos Blood Orange, and last but not least, the Amouage.

Life is looking pretty good!

To be honest. I don't. I use most blades only 3 times anyway. I open the blade gap of the razor by turning the handle. Then I rinse everything clean with warm water. I then shake off the excess water, clean and dry everything on the outside with a microfiber cloth and leave the razor with the open Blade Gap with the blade in it to dry until the next day with the blade slot open.

If I know that the blade will remain unused for a few days, and of course when I change the razor, I take it out and clean the razor thoroughly. I spray the blade with alcohol, but I don't wipe it because I've heard that this can destroy the blade's coating.
