As we head into the hot and muggy months down here, I’m turning to my mentholated soaps for a refreshing start to the day. First up is Don José, a fruity blend of bananas and coconut that, surprisingly, smells like apple juice when the brush first meets the soap. As the lather builds, the banana scent takes the lead. The menthol is present but not overpowering, and you’ll start to feel its cooling effect by the second pass. The chill lingers just long enough to make the heat outside feel a little more bearable.

Got a favorite menthol soap? Tell me about it.

I am not a huge fan of menthol.  I gave away a tub of Proraso Green after just one shave.  I didn't care for the soap performance and really disliked the strong menthol aroma and effect. Also gave away the matching aftershave (too sticky)  But, like you on the hottest summer days I enjoy a light menthol effect.  I have found that the LEA hard puck and Gillette Pure cream in the tube have the Goldilocks amount of menthol while still having other aromas that are not overpowered.

Also, I enjoy Floid Viggoroso  which is supposed to have a "vigorous" menthol effect but I think that it is just right.

A lot like Clubman Classic but with a hint of menthol.  Hard to find now.

My kid, Teton Shaves, has come a long way since I introduced him to traditional shaving.  In fact he’s made a soap with Chris Cullen at Caties Bubbles that I like very much. Caties Luxury Cream is in fact luxury.
