Spitfire (Phoenix & Beau) leather juniper

And so it ends. After forty-three shaves, I'm finally done with Spitfire. Due to an obscenely large rotation, it took over eight years to finish the tub, but each shave was pretty satisfying. For a long time I enjoyed the fragrance – a nostalgic blend of leather and juniper. The label also mentioned tobacco, but I never really detected that in the lather. At first, I did notice a strong ammonia smell, likely due to a curing issue, but it faded away after some airing.
Forty-three shaves might not sound like much, but the tub was underfilled to start with. This was one of Phoenix & Beau’s first batches, and they didn’t account for drying. Instead of the expected 114 g, I think I only got around 100 g. No worries, though – it was enough.
For most of our long relationship, Spitfire and I got along very well, but I won’t be replacing it. While it was nice, it wasn't extraordinary. After about thirty shaves, the scent started to lose its luster, and I just wanted to be done with it. However, the performance was consistently good, especially these last couple of shaves, when I used over six grams of soap to make my lathers.

After all this time I still love the old Valobra sandalwood iteration for AoS. Always a great shave and a soap I have several pucks of still. Even as sons pilfer them. I love that fat silvertip brush and the Merkur 34C has been with me for many years. I do like that huge tin I store the soap in. Sort of with they all came in a too-large tub.
