I forgot how slick this soap is. Though not dense and wet like modern first-class tallow lathers, Windsor is still as slippery as papaya seeds, and man does it smell good, even though it’s three years old.
Windsor brings us back to the top of the rotation. Time to sort things out again. Between now and Christmas I’ll be rolling through my tubs from oldest to newest with a few digressions along the way as new soaps join the stable. Should be a fun ride.
Cheshire t. (Barrister & Mann) Earl Grey tea
I don’t see how a soap could improve with age, but this tub of Cheshire still smells remarkably fresh. In fact, the scent's even better balanced now than it was when I first cracked it open three years ago. Bergamot throws open the door, but what holds the fragrance together is the clary sage. This quiet member of the sage family offers a smooth green scent with hints of flowers, spice, and hay. That last note gives some the impression of a freshly brewed cup of tea, although I’m reminded more of grass tatami mats. Today’s tub is one of B&M’s White Label soaps. The lather comes together without any effort, and though it’s not as dense nor as slick as Will’s recent soap bases, it certainly gives a close, comfortable shave. It finished a bit waxy, but extremely smooth.
