What's your new favorite thing?

Great thread.  My latest has been using the same soap every day.  I finally worked my way through a 90 gram puck of
Czech & Speake “Oxford & Cambridge” soap.  I had been using a recycled Tabac jar for the C&S soap.  So, I had to figure out what to put in the jar for the next go-around.  Fine was selling hard pucks of “pour homme Lavender” soap that was described as based on the same base as the original Tabac, but, with a mild lavender scent.  So I bought some of that and have been using it pretty much every day for a couple of weeks now.  [This has been a change, because for quite some time, I’ve been using a different soap every day (in a rotation of five or six different soaps.].  I’ve discovered that using the same soap every day allows me to focus on prepping the best possible lather (with fewer variables).  I’ve also reduced the number of razors in rotation, again to reduce variables.  It’s definitely fun.  The Fine soap, however, is a pretty hard puck so I’m thinking this might take a while.  But, it’s fun for sure!

You could always fill the recycled Tabac jar with . . .   Tabac!

Ha ha ha!  That one almost made me spit out my tea!  [I should have noted that it’s an “extra” Tabac jar].  I don’t think I could do without some Tabac always at the ready; in fact, I just got some Tabac travel sticks for when the need arises!

Good to hear, Tabac is great     I was just at the Maurer & Wirtz website and learned that they make several different fragrances under the brand Tabac.  I knew there was one other but theres more.  No information on how to find or buy any though which is too bad.  https://www.m-w.de/en/brands/tabac/

My favorite (new to me in 2021) thing is the personal ‘Shave Journals’ here on DFS.

Within the Journals section, I have made some sincere friends, received encouragement/feedback on my brush handles and have greatly enjoyed seeing the personal journeys into this hobby we all share.

Looking back on 2021, I’d say that I’ve enjoyed winnowing the scope of what I use. For the most part, I’m only using a couple of razors and 3 or 4 brushes. I’m down to a couple of blades that I really like and I’ve zeroed in on aftershaves. The great purge will occur by the end of the year.

I’m enjoying not worrying about having to make a big decision and instead know that whatever I use is going to be great. FOMO is nearly gone.

I’m spending more time on my lathering and sticking with just one soap and brush brand to refine my technique (Martin de Candre soaps and Leonidam 2-Band badgers). Also using some of my less efficient razors along with it and getting good results. I do enjoy playing with a good soap.

My "new" thing is using boar brushes(although have been doing that for about a year). Have two Omegas, a Semogue, a Zenith, as well as a small Japan brush.
