Before I comment on this topic, is it legal to revive an old thread on DFS?  Like this one?

Revive it! It'll be interesting to see if folks changed their mind. I remember this thread the first time around.

It would be at that. Products come and go, tastes change.

I have one in mind but I need to ponder it for a day.

What say you?

I'm a fan of badger, boar, and synthetics and favor larger knots over smaller. Not long ago my oldest son started turning brush handles and he gifted me this brush. 28mm badger/boar mixed knot. Of course it's dear because he made it but I actually really like the knot because it's big enough, boney enough, and getting softer as the boar splits. It'd be my favorite even had he not built it.

Boy that is tough to pick one. I really like my Paladin WCXL 30mm, and M&F CHS 30 mm. The one brush that is a surprise to me is the Stirling 26 mm Finest. I cannot believe how good that one feels. To the point where I sometimes want to use it and then pick another one just so I don't wear it out(if that was possible). Crazy isn't it?

I like the idea of a badger/boar knot. Seems it could be synergistic.

No sir not crazy. Lots of fine house brand brushes running around now.

A Declaration B5. I have it in two different form factors and it depends on my mood as to which one I would pick.

Clay Face

Fine Synthetic Angel Hair Classic Shave Brush.

This is both my cheapest and my favorite brush. When I say cheap, I mean it in both senses of the word. I think I paid less that $20 for it. When it arrived I noticed that many of the hairs had been put in upside down: the soft tips were embedded in the handle and their prickly ends were positioned to rub against my face. What's more, the knot was set crooked, so that it looked like the leaning tower of Pisa. For a year, maybe longer, I refused to shave with it. Instead I used it to dust my computer keyboard or the picture frames in my office. Only when I starting using it to make test lathers from some difficult soaps did I discover how wonderful this floppy, ill-wrought brush really is. It makes superlative lathers. Its loose construction lets in plenty of air and water. When the lather's formed it releases the suds quickly without crushing them against my face. And the misplaced fibers have grown softer, though I still get a prickle from time to time.

I don't know, using a $250 brush in order to save a $39 brush from use seems a little crazy to me.

For a few years my favorite has been the modest Shave Revolution synthetic. Nothing in particular blows me away; but, the knot and handle combo is my ideal Goldilocks scenario.
I recently acquired the Stirling Finest Badger brushes and the 26mm bulb knot might soon take the top honors. Unexpectedly, I’m really really enjoying this brush. Kudos to Rod!
