What's so special about Wald Brushes?

My thanks to all of you for your responses.  I just bought the Calyx that IanG153 had for sale on the BS&T.  
It will be my first high end brush purchase ever.  If they really do seem smaller than they are, that will be okay
as my preferred brush size is usually around 22 to 24 mm.  There's a mini Nimbus also for sale on the BS&T,
but at 18 mm I know it would be too small, though the red and black Beelzebub pattern is really a quite a beauty.

Grats on the purchase. I'm giving stronger consideration to making a purchase myself, even after going through all my synthetics and mostly being thoroughly unimpressed with near the entire lot. Right now it's the V2 STF and Evo 1.0 with my preference for the latter. I do have a 1.0 STF I would keep mostly for the nostalgia. Finally picked up an Evo 2.0 and I imagine that will become my new favorite out of the synthetics.

There's something about synthetics feeling smaller overall vs an equivalent brush of the natural variety. They just feel smaller natively, and I agree with what they say that synthetics just feel smaller. That his 29mm feels more like a 26mm. I went crazy buying 4 Muhle XL 2.0s in Black as they don't match my 1.0 muhle. The 1.0 has a 24.3mm knot with a 64.4mm loft, and the 2.0 has a 24.5mm knot and a 55.2mm loft. You can feel the 2.0 is denser, but the 1.0 is deceptive. It's much higher and yet for some reason doesn't feel much difference in terms of density, which just doesn't happen if you're talking natural hair. Variances is part of the love/hate relationship with brushes. Even synthetics with their more manmade fiber nature can't escape some variance. This had annoyed me with synthetics and this was even before I started shifting back to large brushes.

Thanks to Draebeard for posting this question. I have one Wolf brush (badger), which is the most I have spent on a brush. I have many synthetic brushes, and there are noticeable performance differences between them. IMHO, not one of them is worth over $50...since all of the knots come from China. I hope that Draebeard posts his opinions of the Wald brush, comparing it to other synthetics as well as his animal hair brushes. I am extremely curious as to whether he thinks the performance justifies the price.

I recently purchased the 27mm Calyx brush and had made reference to it being smaller feeling than a couple of my brushes in my cabinet and although the Calyx actually measuring 27.6mm where it leaves the handle I would've swore it was less than 25mm as it looks smaller than my STF XL and Timberwolf knots... Wald's fibers are extremely thin and also stuffed extremely dense. It is a total different brush feel compared to another syn or a badger. Really hard to describe how it feels, but it feels very good, and I love mine.

If rudyvey  (a master brush maker) likes it, then it must be a good brush.  I'll know soon.

Great pics and info, muzichead! How would you describe the Calyx in use? Does it feel much smaller than 25mm STF XL? Does it seem like a full-size brush or more like a travel brush? Thanks for any additional impressions.
