What Percentage of Traditional Wet Shavers Have RAD and/or BAD? Any survey metrics?

This hobby has become an "obsession" for many of us. Checking forums everyday. Checking emails from vendors every day. Looking for the hardware and soft goods that will provide us the "perfect" shave. When does this "obsession" end? Psychologists say that there is a "honeymoon" period for everything. How long does this "honeymoon obsession" last for the typical new wet shaver? Does it ever go away? What percentage of the wet shaving community has this acquisition problem?

It comes and goes for me. I don't go crazy with purchases anymore.

I'd say 80%.

I think we all go through this - one day you step back and say holy ****! there is a lot of stuff here. It took me 2 or 3 years to dial it back and it helped that I found stuff I really like to use. There is a fair amount of stuff that doesn't get used much and that pains me somewhat - you feel that you paid for it you should use it but then if you use it you're not using something that may be better or that you like better, catch 22. I still get the itch now and then when either some new artisan pops up and their marketing attracts me or an existing artisan releases something interesting but then I often will step back and remind myself that the last time (and the time before that....) I tried that new stuff I was disappointed. I admit that if certain artisans release certain items, I'm powerless to resist. This tendency of artisans to release existing scents in new formulas is interesting. We all want the new and improved but often its only slightly better or its subjective. I still shave regularly with B&M white label and its still excellent. Its like replacing our vinyl records (sorry kids) with CDs, hopefully without moving through 8-track and now everything is mp3. except for those audiophiles returning to vinyl.

When you ask what Percentage of Traditional Wet Shavers Have RAD and/or BAD, are you referring only to those who participate on the forums, or to all wetshavers who use old school shaving gear?

I got bit for about a year. It looks like all of us get sucked in to a certain degree. I also fell into the " discontinued" trap and over-bought items that I really enjoyed. (Some did in fact discontinue and others were rumor.) I find myself now supporting my favorite vendors products and don't get caught up much in the newer, faster, stronger kerfuffle. That said. I don't mind watching those that like that sort of thing. Hey, this style of shaving turned a dreaded chore into a fun activity. Seems like getting excited and over-buying is an awesome thing.

I certainly have SAD but it looks like my limited space will help curb that. With only two razors I don’t think I’m a candidate for RAD, but searching for the right blade did seem to get me. In my limited experience the closer a product is to your skin the stronger it’s impact on your shave. For me soaps make a tremendous difference with blades being a close second and the razor coming in third. I think this obsession for improving the shave started before I got to wet shaving and it was what brought me here so there’s also a “chicken and egg” situation going on I think.
