Well, truth is I am old, lol. So, yes, I have positive experiences and memory associations with classic "old" frags, and proudly so - I came of age during the 70s and 80s. I submit that the inverse insinuation about old frags can also easily be made: the new synthetic dominated frags are seriously and largely (with a few notable exceptions that I enjoy very much) lacking character on the men's side of the aisle. To me, too many smell like artificial chemical cocktails that seem like they were concocted to support preconceived advert campaigns (rather than vice versa). Can't wear that stuff, regardless of how many compliments it might get me.

So, yea, definite YMMV.

Creed Aventus mixed/layered with Tom Ford Tuscan Leather. Got two compliments within 2 hours.
Compliments are nice, but not important to me.

True. I generally prefer more natural fragrances, and Sauvage is a rare exception (I think it's the only designer that I have a full bottle of).

For me compliments aren't a reason to wear a fragrance, but they do indicate that a scent is coming across as pleasant to others. In some settings that is a practical consideration lol.

Actually, I envy you gents who experienced the 70's and 80's since it was the glory days for masculine perfumery. I can barely imagine all those lovely fougeres untouched by IFRA regulations .

I tried a Chatillon Lux aftershave for the first time this morning.  It was the Vide Poche and it complemented my violet scented shave very nicely.  I like that hawns has managed to create a pleasantly scented aftershave with some longevity!  Nice going, Shawn.

Last night I tried a few judicious spritzes of Tom Ford for Men EdT, and surpise - my skin seems to have tolerated it. Usually I can't wear EdTs or colognes, so this would be a real breakthrough if it holds. I'll have to give it another careful try in 2-3 days. The scent is very nice indeed.

Edti: Oops. Itchy rash on the neck today, so I guess I'll have to dilute this down to aftershave strength.

Tonight I'm wearing Versace Pour Homme, some call it a clone of Chanel Allure Homme Sport, which I also own of course, but I don't agree.

The vibe is the same, but the Chanel is far more creamy from the tonka bean, and the versace stay fresh and clean all the way through.

It's like comparing Cool Water to Creed GIT. They do share similarities, but Cool water stays fresh, while GIT evolves into a creamy green scent, far more complex than Cool Water is.
