Okay, I am a chicken. Have you ever seen a chicken fly?

I have never heard of the Canoe restaurant. But Toronto has over 7,000 restaurants with food choices from all over the world and wonderful people and their languages and accents and customs from all over.

I do love this place. There is a street named after my late son, Paul.  Paul Oberman Walk.
A Belvedere is being built  around their large property, by an architect's association, that will also bear his name.

So my life  and my family's are  happily tied into this place. There is so much to attract here from the classiest hotels to rough, natural wilderness and every possible and imaginable  thing in between.

Mickey Oberman please forgive me if this is too personal, but I google searched your son's name.  You must be a very proud father to have such a son and I am sorry he was taken too soon.  Paul was roughly my age and accomplished so much, I did not know him but after reading what has been written by those who did I can see that he was a wonderful person, passionate and devoted to his family and his community.  People like him are inspirations to us all.  My condolences to you and your family.
Mark

Marko, I too, read about Paul earlier. What amazing accomplishments he had for the city of Toronto. More cities could use someone like that.

I thought I'd post and bring this thread forward - Does anyone else want to share with the members what it is they love about where they live? We've got a few wonderful posts from the US and Canada. I'm really hoping that members outside of North America will also post and share with the members so that we can get a better feel for the truly global reach of the DFS membership.
Thanks,
Marko

Well, if you will allow me to say why I, also, love my home country, Portugal, especially, the north.
Wonderful and friendly people, great food, beautiful landscape and very relaxed and peaceful atmosphere with so many historical sites to visit and great places to hike.
I would love to go back to live, but it is a bit challenging, economically.

I grew up in the middle of Germany (near Fulda ) . During my time in the Navy , I lived in northern Germany . Afterwards I visited the University in Koblenz. Because of my current job I have been living since 2 1/2 years in Munich.
I like Munich very much. The people are very nice and friendly. The city is beautiful and offers nearly everything I want. Good shopping opportunities, a great nightlife, really beautiful places like the Marienplatz, the Viktualienmarkt, the English garden etc.
The region around Munich is very attractive, too. I need 20-30 min. to the Starnberger Lake. I need only one hour, then I'm in the Alps or in Austria. When I want to go for a short weekend trip, then I need only 5 hours to Milan. So the location of Munich is excellent.
The only disadvantage of Munich: it's the most expensive city in Germany. But it's worth to live here. I think I want to stay here.

I live in Vancouver, WA USA. The city itself isn't any different than any other city of 160,000 people......BUT

The Oregon Coast is 90 miles from me:

Timberline Lodge for skiing/snowshoeing is 70 miles from me.

The Columbia River Gorge is 80 miles of fishing/boating/pretty much any outdoor activity you can think of and starts on highway 14 about 10 miles from my house.

Downtown Portland is about 15 miles from where I live if I want to go into the city.

EFDan - That is such a beautiful area.  Did you ever go to the Eagle Creek Trail in the Columbia River Gorge?  At one point you walk behind the waterfall - really neat.

Love Austin although the population has and continues to grow the last decade or so.

Great restaurant scene, university influence, music galore as well as a ton of specialty events such as COTA.

We live on the hill country side of town with rivers, lakes, trails- plenty to do in the great outdoors with a very active community on the whole.

People are both friendly and not only tolerant but encourage diversity [Keep Austin Weird!].

Great place to be.
