Hey Matt, Ols67 I’ve missed your posts here. Latest is a Scheön Burg on a big Nakayama kiita koppa, 100% pure stone. I’ve had a bit of a tussle matching a tomo to it, but I believe that I have it nailed.

That’s a beautiful set up all around Steve!  How was the resultant edge?

First time using a full Nagura progression on a very hard and fine JNAT!  The shave was beautiful!

Following Matt’s lead, I received a NOS Robuso 216 6/8 by Perfectworks, and decided to do a Mikawa progression. Neither of the coarser stones are marked at all, and none of them are Asano stones. They’re all vintage stone, very fast and very pure. The mejiro is really better than almost all the koma that I have. Anyway, I was rewarded with silent HHT and a butterknife edge - I am a fan of Perfectworks razors and this one brought home the bacon’ as the saying goes.

I finished honing The Bull, and will shave with it later today or tomorrow!  I am really looking forward to it!

How do you like your Escher edges versus jnats?

My honing is evolving, and so my answer has evolved…I prefer the edge with a full Nagura progression using a hard and fine JNAT as the base stone over what I have been able to produce with the Escher Barbers Gem.

Running an edge through the Nagura progression, finishing with a whisp of base stone slurry, and then 5-10 water only is leading to the most refined and comfortable edges I have experienced.

I have really been wanting to use this RusRazor for awhile, but something always catches my eye.

I did a full Nagura progression on the no name JNAT base stone.  In the last picture you can see the characters reflecting clearly and crisply on the bevel near the edge at the toe!!

American Knife Co razor manufactured sometime between 1849 and 1875 in Plymouth Hollow, Connecticut!  Serious Americana!
