What are your disliked scents?

Citronella, Synthetic citrus scents.

Patchouli. I avoid it. Anything that has patchouli in it gets a pass from me. I know it doesn't deserve it, but I can;t help it. Let me explain...

Living in upstate NY in the Catskill Mountains near Woodstock...I knew a lot of flippin' hippies.    Dead Heads, Phish Phreaks, travellers and what have you. My son is a Rainbow Gathering kind of guy, as well. The over-use of patchouli oils inside that community is nauseating. My house would be literally overrun with that smell, and you can't get rid of the smell of a dirty hippy that has bathed in nothing but a creek and patchouli oil for 6 months. That odor stays. Forever.

So the word...the sound of that word in my mind as I'm reading an ingredients list, brings nightmares of bad acid trips, dirty feet, unbathed hair, and the obnoxious odor of trying to cover it all up with patchouli.

I just can't do it. Ironically, I have used several soaps that I enjoyed both the performance and the scent that contained patchouli. However, upon learning of that particular ingredient...they were passed on. I just can't do it willingly or knowingly...

I honestly felt the same way. I think the stuff smells like a sweaty, hippie chicks arse crack after a three day music festival, BUT, I gave it a shot and when it is blended with other things I really don't notice it when it isn't on its own.

Oh, youre absoluey right that it blends with other acents beautifully. I have used several soaps that had patchoulu notes that I really enjoyed...until I learned there was patchouli in them.

Its psychosomatic. I know this. Stl cant help it. Oncw I know its there, its all I can smell...

Knowing none of this, even though it was of my time, I think it adds a lot to a scent.

I feel ya BadDad. I know a lot of hippies too, or at least I used to. I don't really like the smell of straight patchouli either, but it can add something nice to a scent if used sparingly, IMO. I can definitely understand your aversion to it especially when combined with or used to cover up dirty hippie stink!

I just picked up an EO combination with the top notes of Patchouli/Sage and it is just superb!

I don't care for vetiver. To me it smells like someone poured water on a campfire. I'm also not a fan of most modern cologne scents. I'm actually thinking of filing a law suit against Axe for false advertising. According to their TV ads I was supposed to be swamped with super models shortly after I applied it. It's been weeks and I haven't even seen a super model. While I have seen some pretty women, it appears to have no effect on them whatsoever. Even when I approach them and start fanning my hands to cause the smell to waft in their direction, rather than becoming attracted, they seem uncomfortable and alarmed and move away. Although one women offered to spray me with some of hers. I think it was pepper scented from what I could make out on the can. This Axe stuff doesn't work at all. Save your money.
