We can't really complain when we sell an item below cost. It's our decision and more importantly it's a gentlemanly gesture.
When I've sold in bst settings I'm not hard up for cash or looking for a profit. I'm trying to offload things that didn't agree with me and help a fellow shaver in the meanwhile. There is a bit of "what goes around comes around" at play. I was just thinking about John's post on the bst earlier today and how I was fortunate to acquire some beautiful Pen's aftershaves at a great price from him in the past. I've done the same (I sold both my Webers well below cost this spring). Selling low end is not getting ripped off but more an act of fellowship among shavers when it happens.
Some people could get irritated seeing price gouging on the forums and imho they have a right to their opinions. To some, bst is a place to share and downsize and there are other places to profit. To me either way doesn't bother me much.
As always, great discussion.
no, it's hypocritical, at best. to say that we can pitchfork people because they're selling something over what the manufacturer sells it for direct (which doesn't take into account the very low output) while not getting upset when someone sells something way below market value is absurd.
the OP is selling the Wolfman at market value.
Ok. I'm open minded here. On a forum of good spirited enthusiasts sharing valuable time and information, how is it hypocritical exactly?
(When I had my children, should I have gotten my back up when friends gave me strollers clothes and car seats?)
to criticize someone for making a few bucks, although when in reality, the razor seems to be priced where the market has them currently valued at versus someone selling something for way under the current selling price seems hypocritical. why is it acceptable to pay less but not more for an item?
as the OP mentioned a few posts back, he was selling his simpson brushes for $120 less than they were going for on the market. no one seemed to complain about that! note, I don't know about the brushes he's referring to or where he sold him, I'm just going off of what he told us.
