Want to Buy Slant Razors

RR Slant V1

Sold my RR slant V2. Didn't think it was worth the hype. LOVE my Above the Tie S1 though. Best slant I have used to this day. I have tried the 37C/39C, the Stirling slant short handle, the PAA bakelite, the fine superslant, and the Ikon. I borrowed the Ikon for one week though so I would have to use it longer to get a better feel for it.

Hi, for me the best are the Ikon Slant DLC with a handle Stork Grodno is beautiful and eficiente. Look the foto with the others Razors.

You may not be so lucky finding that (37G) gold plated razor you're seeking, and if you do, it might not be so reasonably priced. However - just a thought - ANY good Rack-Plating shop (if you can find one, they're out there), should easily be able to turn a 37C into a 37G at a fairly inexpensive cost to you. Fwiw. ...and if you decide to go that route, I just happen to have a 1st gen. 37C that I might be willing to sell to you. - A sale from me aside (seriously), look into a replate if you haven't done so already. GL!

I'm sure you've heard that Google is your friend. Or, use your search engine of choice. Look for 'metal plating'. A plating shop can be, but doesn't have to be local to you - I mean - a state or two away is no big deal - no need to send a razor across the country - there are still plenty of plating shops around. Most likely you'll be able to find a metal plating job shop in close proximity to you.

Contact a few. Call them up. Ask them if they'll plate a single item and if they (can) do rack plating - as opposed to barrel plating. You want your razor rack plated, not barrell plated. Just trust me on this. If you need to know the difference and want an education on the various metal plating methods you'll have to read-up on your own.

Tell them you have a chrome plated razor. Ask them if they can rack plate it (18 or 22 or 24 karat) gold. Tell them it's in three pieces. (I'd suggest you break it down before you send it).

Now here's a big maybe / maybe not - Gold over nickel is easy. Gold over chrome is very doable but more specialized - some places can do it. Some can't. Some shops might want to strip off the chrome, replate nickel and then put gold over that - doing this will ruin your razor.

You need to be very specific with them. No stripping! The steel of the razor isn't the problem. The cast metal is a real problem to strip and refinish. Besides, stripping off an old finish is never a good idea unless it absolutely has to be done - and let's leave those details aside...

Chrome is a very hard finish. Bright & shiny. Let's assume you've found a shop that says they can (and will) rack plate gold over chrome for you. Without stripping Remember... the gold plating is a pretty thin layer. It's lustre comes from the brightness (the shiny-ness) of the underlying chrome plated finish. If any parts of your razor are dull or cloudy looking (like under the head) the gold will look like that too.

Getting a 37C rack plated gold shouldn't be a problem or be too expensive. I can't tell you how much it might be. I've been out of the plating business for too long.

So chase it down. I think you might find what you're looking for but no guarantees, just very good odds in your favor. Sorry for the long explanation. Good luck on your quest. -Rob
