W. GREAVES & SONS!

Gents,

This arrived today in the mail.  It’s a big honking piece of old Sheffield steel that is perhaps a shade  over 7/8 at the widest.  Based off of my research I believe it was likely manufactured between 1817 and 1823.

I purchased it because I haven’t used a GREAVES yet, and it has a similar profile to my SCARGILL which is now my #1!  The SCARGILL is less refined, and more raw...but I have very high hopes for this razor!

The plan is to hone it in the next few days, and use it early next week.  I might use a special finisher for this one!

Gents,

I wanted to use a different finisher for this razor.  So I have decided on this Translucent Arkansas (Dan’s Primitive Cut).  It has a 3.5x7.5 flat surface, and it cost me $66 shipped!  It arrived very flat...certainly flat enough to hone upon, but I treated it to a progression of 220, 400, 600, 800 SiC, and then I ran a razor up and down on it to fully prep the surface.

For guys that are just starting out, and who are interested on finishing on a hard ark...these primitive cuts represent insane value!
