Vintage Price Guide

One of the things that seems to creep up from time to time is new wet shavers getting into our fantastic ritual and inevitably they run to an antique store or flea market looking for vintage DE razors. I love vintage razors and shave with them often and have several and while I know price is highly subjective, there are price guides from everything from used toys to used coins. So here is my question, what do you think is a fair market value for some of the vintage pieces you own. When I see a Fatboy on etsy in terrible shape selling for 150.00 I cringe.... I think the new found love for wet shaving in recent years has caused vintage prices to climb and rightfully so. However, I can't help but think that some newbies are getting raked over the coals in some instances.

Let's assume for this posts "sake" that these are prices for mint to near mint razors. Here's what I would deem fair market value for some of the more popular vintage razors out there. Please list any vintage razors you would like to in turn, this may be helpful to many people at best or at the very least interesting. While I have many vintage razors and in many cases two or three of each I'll start with only a few

What say you? Fair? Too high? Too low??

I usually don't have an expensive razor, so the Tech and Superspeed at 10 usd looks right to me.

But the Fatboy at 60 usd . I'm amazed at that price! I own a Fatboy.

There are people far more knowledgable than I on vintage razors, but, I'd like to think I have slightly above average knowledge. I travel often on business and always hit antique stores in whatever city I am in often, more than one. Those prices I listed I'd like to think are a median of what I have seen in that realm weighted against the overpriced etsy and eBay offerings that are egregiously overpriced 75% of the time. Like I said, prices are subjective so I appreciate you saying 60.00 is to high for a Fatboy. It's great to be able to kick this around. Thanks for your input my man!!

steeleshaves - I think your prices are low.  Mint condition razors are very hand to find.  It's likely we've all stumbled across a user-grade Superspeed or Tech, but I've never owned (or even laid eyes on) a 50+ year old Gillette razor in mint condition!

If you'd be willing to sell me a like new Slim for $35 or a Black Beauty for $45 ... I'll take two of each!

I kind of agree with you I went on the low end. Part of the prices I listed were two fold.... Ease of finding in decent shape and how hard one wants to look. I might go 2 months and 15 antique stores without finding a thing.... Then I might find a Fatboy in great shape for 25 bucks or 125 bucks depending on the place etc.... The most prized possession in my den is a new Aristocrat never shaved with. Someone could offer me two wolfman razors and I wouldn't part with it.... To me, it's a once in a lifetime find and its not like they will be making them anymore!!

I've actually hit the watch button on ebay for 20 Fat Boys in user grade to mint condition for the last month or so. They run anywhere from $75 to $150 with the case. I see them on reddit in user grade condition for $60 or so and they get SNAPPED up in ten minutes. I think Ebay is high, but it is what people will pay for it. You'll find better deals on B/S/T in the forums. Heyal if you are on forums long enough people will PIF you things for free.

Well, I recently purchased a nib aristocrat for $150. So new that it had the outer sleeve too and a pack of blades still wrapped. So I would say your prices are a bit conservative. =)

It seems to be one of the most desirable vintage gillettes no doubt. For me, the red tip and aristocrat give he best shave in the vintage Gillette line. I think the red tip is more aggressive than the Fatboy on 9 and I think the aristocrat is the smoothest most efficient shaver I've ever used.... Maybe that's why I have several of them
