If you last long enough to have skin in this game... pun intended..... I surmise you will learn what I did years ago.... you get what you pay for... I have had countless razors come and go and like many when I started wet shaving I bought everything... of course back then CNC wasn’t a thing.. you had very few options.... I can remember when IKON was considered a premium maker... end of the day for any newbies that may read this you have more options now and several razors that while you may have to drop a Benjamin or two on them your kids kids will use them if they are so inclined.... at the end of the day you will end up reaching for the same two or three razors daily regardless of how many adorn your den... make them ones that will last regardless of who makes them..... someday your sons and or daughters will be glad you did....

I have been wet shaving since my teens and I am well into my late 40s. Things last long as well as you keep them, so I agree.

There are some of my dads razors that I like and some that I didn’t. So it’s subjective that an inherited razor will be liked by ones children.

If you take care of any razor, it should last a long time.

My cousins kid didn’t like the fatboy he got handed down. He ended up buying a red tip instead. Now it’s just an heirloom item. As a parent you would hope and want that your kids use a razor you have, but it’s no guarantee that they will want it or even like it.

It all depends what you want and need. A CNC machined $300 razor doesn’t shave better than a $25 razor IMO. A razor is what is good for your needs. There are many choices and that is great for everyone. So everyone wins.

Here are some side by side photos between the Emperor and the Super adjustable.

I do realize that setting 1 on both razors are not the same but I made photos for settings “1, 5 ,9” on the Super Adjustable and setting “1,5,max” on the Emperor. The Emperor has settings 1 to 9 and past 9 is another setting called “max”. The adjustable dial is continuous, which is a plus.

The con I give the Emperor is that the adjustment arrow is hard to see on this model. The Bronze and Cognac model doesn’t have this issue.

Setting 1 on the super adjustable is below ( yes, there is a blade in there)

“Max” setting past 9 on the Emperor is below

Etching should have been a different color. A little difficult to see.

Even the etching on the REX was not that easy to read unless looking at it straight on. Seems that it has more to do with etching as opposed to actually having an indentation for the numbers as in the old Gillettes. Almost makes it worth the extra $4 for the Augustus. This razor does have the differential guard like the Crusader, right?

Update: I have edited this response as I believe that the combs are symmetrical when further looking. I have left my original answer below

Yes it’s worth the extra $4 for the Augustus.

One side of the guard is solid and the other side has the micro comb.

In terms of if there guards are asymmetrical to each other, they look asymmetrical like the crusader. The left guard is lower than the right guard.

On the crusader it being asymmetrical didn’t affect the shave for me. I still kept using both sides like I normally do. Maybe if it becomes an issue for everyone then maybe if they have a 3rd iteration they can make it symmetrical.

I’ll give my shave results tomorrow, but i suspect it will be as a smooth as the crusader. The crusader was very comparable to the Super Adjustable.

This razor is a freaking heavy weight at 135 grams, it feels nice in the hands and high quality.

While I am working my way to have 10 posts to unlock the PM requirement, if you would like to message me in the meantime, you can contact me via our official website if you have any questions about the Emperor.

I got this today via Amazon. Will give it first test tomorrow. Thought about the Augustus but decided on the Chieftain. Maybe the Augustus will be next?

I actually have shaved twice with the Chieftain and both shaves were excellent. Close and smooth. I thing I found is the razor makes blade noise which is not uncommon with razors. Build quality is really good. The TTO mechanism is very smooth. Grip also is perfect. For $40 (Amazon one day shipping) I am impressed.

gLet,

I am glad you got your Emperor in frosted chrome so quickly!
Some of our early Amazon customers have responded favourably and I hope you will get the same experience too.

I am trying to contact you via PM but it hasn't been 14 days yet so my account is still pending.

I just emailed Andrew of DFS and asked him to help me merge this "Vullion Group" account with the long lost "VikingsBlade" account.

In the meantime would you be able so send me a Hello message via our website contact form?

Cheers mate.

Thank you Slantman! I am glad you enjoyed the 2 shaves.

Just make sure to towel dry your razor after you finish using it.
All rose gold-plated razors (from any brands) will eventually age and fade into a unique weathered appearance. If we rinse and towel-dry them regularly, this appearance will be much nicer.
