Hey folks, what do you like about horse hair brushes?

Today I got my second Vie-long, it's 04513 Hair mix: 50% mane hair; 50% tail hair.
Old one is 12705 Hair mix: 35% mane hair; 65% tail hair

Long handle makes brush more usable even hair is soft. I made some lather test with soaps DR. Shelby, MWF, Razorock Essential oil of Lime and Muhle Buckthorn. I think this Vie-Long will be one of my go to brush. Handle is great, one of best handle in my den.
Handle of old brush is too slippery and hands are always in lather. New one is way better Smile[Image: 3VQYNCy.jpg]

I have the Vie-Long on the right.  I really like it.

What I like about horse hair brushes.

1.  Price.  You can get a very attractive and soft brush for a great price

2.  Sheds very little if any from first use on.

3.  Lathers well and feels good on face.

What I don't like

1.  Requires more soap to lather than other brushes.

2.  Holds too much water, which can effect performance on certain soaps.

If I had to rank brushes in order of material it would be Badger, Horse, Synthetics, Boar.

One thing to add to the plusses, no animals are harmed making these natural brushes.

I like it! As a handle ...

It'd be nice with a synthetic knot ... I've re-knotted a couple of their Vie Long Amphora handles with synthetic. I tried horse, but it all got horribly tangled in use and nobody wants to have to comb out their shaving brush with a pet comb ever use.

I put my personal ranking quite the other way around: synthetic as best, boar, badger and finally horse.

To me "have to comb" is no big deal, It is only one part of fun Smile
To you, synthetic brush is better, if it need some tcl put it to the dishwasher Big Grin

I made new handle for Vie Long 12705. Now it's way better. Knot is glued to deeper to the handle. Knot is very soft, but not too lazy.
