Varlet is moving to Order Form

I was looking forward to the order page...until the prices were posted. Shocking to me....but I know there are brush guys out there that'll buy them. Not me. I never really got the attraction to Varlet as the handles are kinda boring material wise.

On the bright side, a custom Varlet is still $300ish cheaper than a DG custom.

It will be interesting to see if the market places the same value on his kit as he does.

I was looking forward to being able to order one until I saw the prices - with CA tax and shipping, a Ranger is now over $600 for me - it'll be interesting to watch how this plays out, both with varlet and with other artisans...

My Varlets are my favorite brushes. I feel fortunate to have bought a few while I could. The value isn’t there for me now, unfortunately. I’m two shapes away from having one of each shape, but that’s where it’s going to stay for the time being. This seems to be another small piece of a larger wake up call for me. But if Aldo can make it work, more power to him.

I received a text message last night from someone letting me know the Varlet was open for orders. I was thinking about picking up a Gaslamp and almost shit the bed when I saw the pricing. I have heard nothing but good things about Varlet brushes/knots but there too many great artisans out there making custom brushes to justify paying the new Varlet prices. As was pointed out to me, that is Wiborg territory.

They're his brushes. He can charge whatever he wants. Not for me. He actually lost my interest long ago with the "drop" method.

I don't think even Wiborgs are worth the kind of cash they go for.
The few that you see on the market are well travelled, and have considerable mileage
on them, from being traded around like the village harlot.

I think Varlet's hoping his prices scream that he's way better than what other artisans are offering...
just don't know how many are going to fall for that spiel.

Wiborgs are overrated and overpriced. What does Wiborg do best? Probably engraving. What’s the least useful part of the brush? The engraving. Varlets are much better in my opinion. But at those prices, for Wiborgs, custom Varlets, second hand BEs, I’m happy sticking with what I already own.

Wiborg had some interesting handle shapes altho the attention to extreme detail wasn't quite there.
The engraving was all over the place...or not present at all...mine had none.
He did luck out and get some awesome hair for the faux ebony white badger series...that's about it.

If Varlet was rearing his own badgers and feeding them gold flake encrusted truffles, ok, but it's highly likely that
he's getting the hair from a source that is supplying others as well...but perhaps getting a product that is
the result of a more stringent sorting process.
