B16 a unique knot within the DG lineage; quite good to my perspective. However, if the B16 not for you, acquire a B15; it more representative of DG historically and his best ever of those exhibiting some degree of gel.

regarding B3 and after months of use, this is why you wisely avoided taking final thoughts/ review.
After 3 months of constant use the brush appears a totally different charactes improving its charasteristics for 200%.
Softer, excellent backbone, natural feeling, excellent soft massage feeling , perhaps the best of the B11, B14, ( even if they are gelled) B5 I have tested...
Totally mistaken to take a final review for a brush with only some days of use.

Have a couple B3 brushes that have come to love over the years. They, like all DGs, fully develop and manifest their characteristics over the initial uses which then persist. What has changed is my technique to best access their unique characteristics.

Things go in waves; at moment, the chicane carrying Wald (which find odd). But the thing is, don't believe in the mass psychogenic spectacle that is the 'market'.

Believe it was Wilde that penned:

'Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else's opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation.'.

And, yes, fully grasp the incongruity.

I know two people already who had to send their B16 brush back to Scott because the knot was so wonky and lopsided. This is the quality control I was referring too. It's not a good look especially when it's happening to more than one brush.

Agreed that is troubling and was unawares as am far from well connected.

Hoping this thread will act as a repository reference thread of the good and bad of DG brushes generally across the line for the DFS community. Would you please go into detail regarding the specifics of the wonky and lopsided characteristics, if possible with photographs?  Ask that you copy and paste so text and photos from other sources/posts can be read in line with the thread without jumping about with links. Also please discuss resolution as it one thing to have issues and quite another how they resolved (or not).  Thank you for raising this.

Generally, asking we keep the responses to people with first hand knowledge avoiding a lot of conjecture commentary without experience ONLY because wanting this to be a resource easily accessed by future readers to assess whether their brush has specific issues requiring redress.

More often than not yes.  Sometimes longer.

Thanks, that makes some more sense now. He mentions that knotting is usually available, but he limits the numbers which sounded contradictory. So he must be releasing only as many as will maintain his cue at four weeks. Sounds pretty reasonable, Wolfman is at about six weeks right now. It's hard not to get excited after Rudy sent pictures of the handle. I am going to be right at 50% of what he charges for those 28mm brushes for my RV with 24mm knot, pretty happy about all this compared to some other options. Let's hope I like the B16 or somebody else is going to get to enjoy it at a discount!
Case in point its going on 6 weeks and my SSB still has not been shipped.  The time was quoted for 3-4 weeks.  Im not all that worried about getting it fast but I will probably email him next week to see what's up.

In interim, have had the chance to breakin a friend's virtually new B13

Process has been:
* 4 days of lathering with traditional tallow soap and leaving so encrusted overnight, followed by thorough rinsing the next day

* 2 washes with a high end canine shampoo followed by thorough rinsing

* Sit overnight in canine conditioner followed by thorough rinsing

* Soak 8 hours in 50% organic white vinegar solution followed by thorough rinsing

* Allow to dry for 3 days

Happy to report the hair is even better than B8, my previous favourite nongel DG hair batch. It about as perfect as a great batch of Simpson SilverTip. Absolutely zero scritch, solid backbone and density.

B13 is a winner!!

First, thanks for doing this,  Dan.  I've never tried a DG so this is informative.

Where did you come up with your break-in method?  I've never heard of a specific method for breaking in a badger.   How much of a difference does it make?  I might like to try it.

Combining what have found to be the best pieces of instruction encountered over the years. Works well from personal experience; you may or may not favour it. Thought it important to disclose how brushes prepared and that it a consistent procedure for all in commenting on brush performance

Happily I can report that I recieved a very well formed knot, hopefully the defective knots people received were just anomalies, and not that I'm just lucky enough to get a goldilocks.

I was a bit worried when I took it out of the box because it did look like it might have been uneven as parts of the knot looked taller than the rest, but after washing it with some Nuetragena clarifying shampoo, and then conditioning it, it bloomed beautifully.
