trying new razors

I'm curious to know if when trying new razors, you stick with your go-to blade for a few shaves until you figure out the new razor's proper angles or if you just plop a blade in and you're off!

for me, I almost always try new razors with an Astra SP blade as I find it's a highly regarded blade in the wet shaving community and it's never been a problem for me.

For round one I go with my go to blade and go from there

For me, I use my go to blade a Kia as I know how it shaves in my other razors. I will use the razor with Kia blades for about a month(unless I am getting bad shaves then I will change it)then I will chop & change blades to see if it's improves or not.

What he does is my method also.

Go to for me - a Feather double edge. I know that if I use a light touch I'll come out of the shave in tact.

Always use my go-to blades-- Polsilvers. I have to be frank though, I'm not too disciplined with trying new razors. If my first shave doesn't go too well then it really reduces the likelihood of me returning to the razor for a 2nd or 3rd shave. It's a little dumb because I'm more than aware that sometimes it takes a while to find the correct blade angle or even blade, but I guess I'm not willing enough to give up the great shaves I know I can get from other razors. Come to think of it, I'm the exact same way with trying out new blades. I know blades can smoothen out over time, but if they feel rough on the first pass then I toss em.

I'm about to try an SE for the first time so I say it's a perfect opportunity to change that mentality.

Here too. Typically start with a Feather SS blade and then switch out to see how a new razor performs across blades.
