I think they jack up the prices to keep people from switching back to an older system where there is less money for them. Thats why I like those DG carts. 1 clam for 5, sometimes 10 depending on the store.

Regarding the TRAC and Atra razors, how do they feel? I’ve always wanted to pick one up since I travel a lot I just never have. I see the handles on eBay often and right now hey even have a NOS vintage TRAC II that I would purchase to use, but it sure looks nice.

I used one for a year or so before switching over to de or se. Still used in emergencies etc. I keep the wife fully stocked on them. Her and the daughter use the same one for a month at a time. Of the cheap DG types I have bought some have the aloe strip some don't. Makes no difference to me as I use premium soap anyway. Somewhere on this board I posted a picture of the sold brass duck. It is my favorite. It is the slide in type. Love it.

And here it is. The DG blades give a decent shave with our good soaps and maybe a second pass just for fun. When looking for Atras don't pass up this style of head. The same cart fits both my Atra and my slide in duck.

The Trac II handles and blades I’ve used haven’t been anywhere near as efficient as my best DE razors, but they get the job done. Sometimes they can be nice for a change, or handy when traveling.

Merkur used to make a handle that had an adapter for Atra/Trac II, Gillette Sensor and certain Schick blades. I actually like the original Sensor blades quite a bit, so having a handle like that would be pretty great. Then again, those blades are quite expensive, like cartridges tend to be, so part of the attraction of classic wet shaving is lost in that sense.

Whenever I go to shave, I assume there’s someone else on the planet shaving, so I say “I’m gonna go shave, too.”

I really liked the original Gillette Sensor blades, as well, Matthew. It just got to the point where any carts less than 3 blades were very difficult to find locally.

As far as Trac II style blades, I used to buy some Wilkerson Sword brand Trac II carts from the local WalMart back in the early 1990's. These particular version of carts had "Blades made in Germany" on the back of the package. Those were a favorite while I could get them, as they were probably the sharpest Trac II style carts I had ever used. I've even looked for them on eBay from time to time just to see if they were as good as I remembered. I used to go ATG on my neck with those carts and get really smooth shaves. We call it BBS now.(I guess I had the bug back then!) I still got ingrowns, though. But, I was SMOOTH for a day. This was back when I shaved once a week and my mother told me I looked like a bum after a couple of days. Big Grin
