There and Back Again, A Wet-Shaver's Tale

Brush: TSC 2nd Anniversary
Soap: Ethos Grooming Colonia
Aftershave: Ethos Grooming Colonia
EDT: Salvatore Ferragamo Acqua Essenziale Colonia

I'm doing a honing pass around on another forum. It has garnered a good amount of interest, and the razor I used today was from one of the participants. I believe it was finished on an SB Arkie. I grabbed the new tub of Ethos soap and got to it. Man this scent is great, and the performance is fantastic. If you've ever smelled ADP Colonia and love it, just pull the trigger on this soap now.

The shave was ok with a decent result, though the razor was pretty tuggy from the start. It was removing hair but took some effort to get through some of the denser areas. Interestingly enough it did a pretty good job on the ATG on my upper lip, which is one of the tougher areas for me to shave well. A three pass with some clean up DFS+ was achieved, but the alum let me know that I pushed things a bit far getting there. A bit of the aftershave goes a long way, and a couple sprays of the EDT capped things off nicely.





Hopefully this weekend I can spend some time catching up in the other journals. I hope everyone is doing well.

Thanks, I did have an enjoyable honing session with an Otto Busch that I found on the auction site. I'm finding that, while I enjoy all my straights, I have a preference for the larger blades, so I did a search for 7/8 straight razors and that was one that popped up. Amazingly enough no one else bid on it so I won it with the starting bid, which was quite low compared to other razors close to it's size and quality. I have you to thank for turning me on to that name, as I don't think I'd heard it before and I've been drooling over your World Master since I saw it.

The Otto Busch's I have are superlative razors. Both the 6/8th and 7/8th+.  The name and logo are just the kind of marketing I like. If you sell something named "Worldmaster" with a logo of a guy riding a razor cracking a whip. It better be a good razor. When I first started straights. I really zeroed in on the 6/8th's an up sizes. It was easier to get my angles correct while shaving. That has tempered somewhat. As I can now use and enjoy my smaller razors just as much. But they (big razors) are still my fav's.  I'd be hard pressed to part with my Filli's and Worldmasters.  If you want to go down another razor rabbit hole. Razors from the Land of the Rising Sun are mostly Extra Hollow. Ground very well. Good steel. And 6/8th's or above. Check out my razor tonight. It will one my favorites from Japan for quality and the marketing.

And here is today's Mail Call. Everything else is put on hold until I use this stunning Max Sprecher custom.

Razor: Max Sprecher 8/8 near wedge
Brush: Sorrentino turquoise
Soap: CBL Orion Hammam Spa
Aftershave: CBL After Shave Tonic
EDC: Penhaligon's Savoy Steam

Max really does create functional art. Just a beautiful razor and very easy to handle. Three passes and a bit of clean up for a fantastic DFS+, a nice dousing with the EDC and I was good to go.





So I've been thinking that it's time to start properly storing my straights, and there aren't a lot of good options out there that don't cost a mint when you're looking at storing dozens of the things. I'm sure it's been done before, but this is my inexpensive and easy way to cobble something together. One of the local cigar shops sells their used wooden cigar boxes for a couple bucks each, so I grabbed a few. Fat Bottom Betty is apparently a popular brand there. Some cheap hobby wood, a table saw, some wood glue, and I'm pretty happy with the results.
