Same miracle.
On Vector is even better, being the thickness of the AC blade.

Not quite sure what you are questioning, most razors, when comparing open comb to solid bar, has a step up in efficiency. Karve shaving even suggested that going from solid bar to OC was a one step up in efficiency

The argument is that IF skin was perfectly smooth and flat, with no texture or contours, hairs grew uniformly with no effect on the surrounding skin, the shaving cream was zero viscosity (or perhaps, if it kept the bar or teeth from touching the skin at all), the blade had no drag, hairs did not deflect the skin as they were cut, you could shave with zero pressure, and so on, the gaps between teeth would have no effect.

As Dad used to say, IF a frog had wings, it wouldn’t have to bump its butt on the ground after every jump, BUT it doesn’t.

Or, as I’ve often said in my long career in Research & Development, if something impossible is occurring, then there’s a variable we missed.

Of course It does.
It's a matter of ... material.

Just in DE world, because the poor blade.
AC blades in modern SEs are a different thing.

No different geometry, no different shaving angle.
No flexibility here.

I think it's not great form to tell others that their experiences are invalid. Besides, part of what open comb does is to allow skin to creep up slightly between the comb teeth, getting that bit of skin closer to the blade and getting a closer cut. It's not much, to be sure, but we all know it doesn't take a big change to affect a shave. You can see this for yourself by running an OC base plate across your arm. You'll see the indent where the teeth impact the skin and you'll notice no indent between the teeth, meaning that the between-teeth skin is now higher than the rest. From there it's not hard to imagine how adding a blade would go. For comparison, a safety bar would press all the skin evenly at the same depth that the OC teeth do.

This also means that a greater difference between the teeth amplifies the effect. As an extreme case you can imagine a razor with just two teeth at the ends. In the middle, your skin would probably reach the blade itself. At the other end of the spectrum, a razor with no gap between the teeth is called a safety bar and the skin is evenly depressed.

No material is added or removed when transferring the SAME blade from one base to the other.

Are there any plans for titanium handles for vector? Would go great with the light weight vector head.

We’re working on full titanium Vectors. I’m not yet sure that we’ll have the handle available individually.

Today I tried a fresh Feather Pro Super with the OC base on multiple days growth. Half to most of a week? I neglected to count the days, but it was longer than I would normally shave with the Vector SB without trimming first. Not that it wouldn’t do it, but I found it uncomfortable on long growth.

Not so with the OC! I found it very comfortable, and got a great shave. The OC is definitely a winner for me!

Just used my newly acquired Vector OC on my head and face with about a weeks worth of growth. Using Feather Pro Super that already had a couple uses, the Vector is the greatest head shaver I’ve ever used. I completely understand why Ruds said it was also his favorite for head shaving.

The Vector shaves closer and smoother than my 1.55 WR2. The WR2 wins on my face but nothing I’ve used even comes close for head shaving. I’m still in awe of how good the Vector shaves and how the OC plate refused to clog but just kept removing hair.

I look forward to trying the SB plate with a Schick Proline and seeing how it compares.

Great work, Shane!
