What is "SHaDE"?  Huh

It's how I originally named this new head geometry.
Not a true Single Edge, because of the Half DE blade.

Oh.

Say what you will, but this is at minimum something new & innovative and not some "novel" ad nauseam overpriced artisan DE.   Wink

Personally, I see the AC & the "half blade" razors as really bringing nothing new to the table. As well, having tried an AC style razor I was not the least enthralled with using a razor that felt like a windshield wiper!!  Confused   Too ungainly and I found the shaves below that of a vintage injector style razor. Of course, my opinion and $5 will get you an overpriced coffee at Starbucks.  Tongue

Amen to that.

The KS went live earlier today. Got in on the early bird special starter kit. $64 was less than I anticipated. Zinc alloy make up but, I have a few Merkur razors (Progress, Futur & Mergress) that are great performers. To much is written up on Zinc that has rendered it garbage in the eyes of many. I don't think that. With care they'll last for many years of reliable service.

Yeah, I'm in.....

I too jumped onboard for the Kickstarter.  Razor looks interesting for the price.  They hit their goal on the first day so guess that’s a good thing.

Twig Razor - update #3

4 hours left!

Wow - I am so thankful for all 2,204 of you. If you have any friends you think would enjoy a twig, please let them know there's only 4 hours left to grab one here. Otherwise, on to the updates!

Production Update

Where are we in the process of harvesting these beautiful razors? Well, we're in high-volume production prep. During the campaign we were ahead of the game and already received the first round of production samples (First Articles) from our supplier. These represented the first true run off of the production machines and processes. The aim here is that before you make 20,000 of something that you make a small number of something so that you can ensure you're making them right.

This allows us to look at each of the parts individually off of the molds, see how they finish and experience how they all work together assembled. There is always going to be changes at this stage. Not big ones, but small tweaks to ensure fit, finish and results are exactly as we intend them to be.

So anyways, after receiving that first batch we knew we were in a good spot. They were pretty solid, definitely not perfect, but there were obvious areas to hone in on with the manufacturing process. Well, this week we received round-two of these production samples and they are honestly, very very good. We were able to implement the appropriate adjustments to dimensions, molds and assembly.

Specifically, the primary thing we're looking closely at are the moving parts (open / close mechanism) for smooth, repeatable and reliable operation. Secondly, we confirm the obvious things like: do the blades fit, does the magnet assembly go in right, is the finish of a high-quality. Finally, we test them. We put our own necks on the line for you folks! The critical dimensional analysis work we do goes into ensuring that the blade is at the correct position, gap is right, exposure is dialed in, and angle is right so that the shave experience is how we designed it.

In this second round, we've nailed all of the operational items in the razor (mechanisms), and the shave is close to perfect. That means we're very close to production ready. A few minor adjustments and we're ready to hit go!

Here's a silky smooth video of that open / close mechanism and blade fit at the bottom of this update.

What happens next?

This Kickstarter campaign will close later today. There are still three critical things we will be asking you for before being able to fulfill your rewards, once The Twig is ready to ship.

Your finish selection
Your shipping address
Any additional products / accessories you want to add to your shipment
We will be sending out a backer survey to gather all of this information in October, probably about mid-month.I will continue to provide updates every two weeks here or whenever something particularly interesting happens so that you can follow along with our progress towards manufacturing and fulfillment.

As always, if you have any questions just drop them below, message me on KS or drop an email to hello@leafshave.com.

Thank you!

- Adam

Came in today. First shave was quite good with 3 passes and some touch ups but, no nics or cuts and certainly no irritation. Going to give it a go for a full week and see how it pans out. Mechanism is pretty precise and blade alignment is true end to end while being held securely. No blade chatter and no skipping once the shave was underway. Nice first shave...

Three days growth, three passes and smooth as silk. Shaves as good as many of my top tier shavers. And that’s saying something from a razor that cost me $65. Definitely worthy of staying in the shave rotation and would recommend to anyone looking for a budget priced SE razor that actually performs better than one should have expected (well, at least what I would have expected). Kudos to Leaf. A great day and shaves to all....
