It's harsh for lack of a better word. The reason I ask is that I see a lot of these with nothing on the top cap/door. Mine says "HOLD FLAT AGAINST FACE". Is there any difference between these razors?
I don't think the head geometry was changed. I can't explain the variance other than damage to the razor. JL Kessler's has a video on YouTube where he gets a really awful shave with one -- he still has a 5 o'clock shadow after three passes (I'm DFS after one). Go figure.

The instructions that came with them stated the same thing Jeff. I've only ever heard of one model of OCMM.

FWIW, I don't hold any SE razor cap flat against my face and the soap "ring" tells that tale. The cap on them all shows no soap deposit for approx' 1/4- 3/8" away from the cutting edge. That goes for the MM family as well.

Defying all common sense, I took my two new 1914s out for a spin. First pass with one armed with the 80-90 year old Autostrop blade (well stropped), second and third with the other carrying a new Gem shimmed with two old injector blades. Amazingly, no damage was done. The old Autostrop did alright WTG, the shimmed Gem got grabby going ATG on the chin (a tough area) but still achieved a BBS sans carnage. Sound of buttered toast measured at 92db. I'm not convinced the shims (since they just float) didn't disrupt proper alignment, so I'll be giving the 1914 a shot shimless, and a third with that lovely Autostrop spine in place of the Gem's if I can get it off. Don't try this at home kids. [Image: 08e8cd32e6da3f3b5795a4070b0b1b9a.jpg]

7th SEptember Shave
Proraso Green Pre/Post
Vintage Rubberset Handle with 24mm Maggards Plissoft Knot
Van Yulay British Fern
Ever Ready 1914 Lather Catcher / Gem stainless steel PTFE (Shave 7)
Thayers Superhazel with Proraso Green Pre/post

Fine Shave. Starting to feel the life of the blade, but still an excellent shave. Will continue with it. The Van Yulay Croap is working fantastic. The British Fern scent is similar to Caties Bubbles Spanish Holiday very nice scent which I remember smelling in the Dominican Republic.

Sending the pal Adjustable onto the next person in the pass around today, picked up the mongoose on a rocnel handle and had a great shave with a feather pro blade. SEptember is going strong here in Southern Colorado. Have a great day everyone

SEptember Shave 10

GEM Junior with Bakelite handle + CVS Blade (5 or 6)
Razorock Monster
TABAC
T.N. Dickinson's Witch Hazel
Clubman (doctored up a little)

Another good shave wondering if it's the blades. Anyone like the carbon blades better than the SS ones. I've made way to many variations with all these new razors to try but just has me thinking. Idea

I've known a few folks who preferred the carbon steel. They found them to be smoother and to not require a few shaves to get broken in. I also find them to be smoother initially*. I don't use them because they can't be stored for the shavepocalypse, I also dislike the additional maintenance that I simply can't remember most of the time. That lack of maintenance on my part greatly reduces their longevity. Hey, I'm a frugal New Englander and it bothers me no end to see something that doesn't achieve it's full potential if it cost me $.

*not that much smoother to justify the aggravation for me to use them
