No. In the U.S., beer containing less than 0.5 percent alcohol can be labeled alcohol-free. If you’re looking to steer completely clear of booze, be sure to read the label closely before consuming.

I'm still in with no alcohol since the 1st.

That is correct, most NA beers have 0.4 - 0.5% ABV.  But so does Kombucha and any other fermented drink.

If you do the math, that means you have to drink about 7 of them to get the equivalent of a single 3.2% like you get in states like OK that limit alcohol content.  Most light beers are on the order of 4.5%, so you'd need to drink 9 of them to equate to a single light beer.  Have you ever tried to drink 9 NA beers in one day?  It's probably impossible for someone to do it by accident.  I bet 3 or 4 is the most I've ever drunk, and that was probably over the course of 3 or 4 hours.

mrdoug is correct about AA and other recovery programs.  People dealing with substance abuse probably aren't going to respond well to placebos.  I say probably because I quit drinking 9 years ago after roughly 10 years of alcohol abuse.  I occasionally drank NA beer, even early in that process, and was never tempted to go back to the real thing.  But I've been involved with some recovery programs and I do realize that my situation isn't common.

I'm not concerned with drinking 9 NA Beers, just trying to abide by the spirit of the thread that was started and thought there'd be some recomendations by those that knew which had maybe zero alcohol. I'm not questioning people's sobriety here. Never mind Rolleyes
It's ok Dave, we know you're really a cat in disguise... Always judging. Lol.

Nah, it is still helpful info for those of us who have had issues drinking to know the facts. A good conversation, imo. Thanks to all for bringing it up and carrying it through. It just goes to show... you never know when a simple conversation can spiral out of control into actual advice.

Guinness 0, Heineken 0, Sam Adams Just the Haze IPA, Brooklyn Brewing, Well Being Brewery, etc. Many of them you wouldn't be able to tell that they're NA without the labels.

It's been about 2 years since I had a beer. I usually only get one with a Mexican or steak dinner while eating out. And I hadn't thought about the NA stuff, as O'Doul's was the only I'd tried, back in the early 2000s. So since I work in a grocery store, I took a look. I was surprised that we had about 5 or 6 options, other than O'Doul's. Since I like most Sam Adams offerings, I pickup up a six pack of Just the Haze. It is very tasty! I saw some labels I didn't recognize, as well as St Pauli Girl and one of the Big Boys (Bud or Miller, I think). Last night, I shopped at a competitor's store, as our store doesn't carry everything we want. And this store had the Guinness! Again, what a treat to have with my chicken sandwich! Thanks, Garrett, for the mentions of these.

Are the NA versions also low carb? By that I mean under 5 carbs per 12ozs.

TIA

Brian, the only option I had locally on quick look was Guinness zero. I don't have the bottle in front of me but here's what I found online. There's a lot more than 100 ml in a can so it's going to hit above five carbs unless you're splitting the can with somebody.

Guinness 0.0 is low in calories, carbohydrates and sugar so is a healthier choice than many other alcohol-free beers. There are just 17 calories and 3.8g of carbs per 100ml in Guinness 0.0 compared to 35 calories and 2.7g of carbs in full-strength (4.1%) Guinness draught

How is the Guiness 0.0?  I haven't seen it up here but it is the land of high prices and few choices so I'm not surprised.  I've tried a few of the NA beers and like some of them.  Coors Edge is surprising drinkable after doing thirsty work like cutting the grass.  It's also in a normal size can.  I like the Grolsch one too but bigger can so more calories.  Becks and Heineken are making one too and theyre not bad....if I sorta half squint my eyes and look off into the distance I can fool myself into thinking I'm drinking a a beer.  It's funny, I like having a beer or two but hate the feeling I get from it.  One of the things I like about the NA beer is that one is enough.  Here's a link to Coors Edge nutritional info:

Thanks.

Arrgh! 22grams is close to a days carbs for me! Obviously I was hoping for NA and low carbs. I don't drink much beer but every once in awhile I like one with a meal. Pizza and beer go together as does corned beef, yada, yada. Fingers crossed.

Mark, thanks for the insight on some other options if I find them. The Guinness was okay and probably for what I read tastes very close to a Guinness Stout. They have their patented nitrogen plastic releaser inside the can. When you pop it open it releases the nitrogen as if you were getting a Guinness at a bar from the tap with nitrogen. This gives you the nice frothy head. I kind of miss the carbonation in most beers that the Guinness does not have but it was a nice drink to try.

The Coors edge is 8gms total carb. But it’s not Sam Adams.

Great thread and thanks for all your contributions.

I'm a newb here (but I see KY Dave on another forum) so it's a familiar face/name nonetheless, so I hope you don't mind a few words from my side of things.

It's been just over a year since I last had an alcoholic drink, which was largely down to some long term health issues flaring up, largely dealing with my acid reflux. Aside from alcohol, I can't really eat/drink acidic foods that involve lot of sugar, alcohol, meat/fish, fruit and other things too. Back to alcohol, since stopping drinking, it's taken a while to appreciate that even if my dependency issues weren't as severe as some I have come across, I still had them at certain points in my life.

Since largely taking out the processed sugar from my diet, be it alcohol, chocolate, cakes, ice cream etc, I definitely noticed I'd been having withdrawal symptoms. I'd stopped smoking about 6 years ago (replaced that vice with another - wet shaving, they said I'd save money...) and found my sugar withdrawals akin to those for nicotine in some ways. I sometimes think it's impact on our bodies is underestimated, I know I did for many, many years.

I don't really miss drinking as much as I'd think I would, but occasionally I miss some rituals and routines involved, but I'm missing them less and less as time goes on. Sugary foods like ice cream and cake are another issue!

Sorry for rambling on, and good luck to everyone who's posted up.
