Astra SP without a doubt. Super smooth and super sharp.
I am fairly new to DE wet shaving and after trying out about 20 of the most recommended blades I have found most weren’t quite sharp enough for me like the Personnas, Platinums, Rapiras etc. Some were sharp but not smooth like Permasharp. Some were slightly sharper like the Feather & Nacet which are blades I really like but the slight sharpness increase isn’t worth the decrease in smoothness.
Another new favorite is the German Wilkies but I find in some razors they aren’t quite sharp enough but they are the smoothest blades I’ve tried. So I prefer the Wilkies in some razors but the Astra SP works great in every razor I’ve ever tested and always feels sharp and smooth. The GSB blades can be close and I’ve had some good ones but overall I don’t find them quite as sharp as the Astras.

Ive been using the Israeli Red for the last week and I will put it at a solid (very close) second to my favourite Feather. Nacet are close too.
Ciao Marko (or is Marco)!
I agree but when I made the jump to more aggressive razors and the feather bites a bit more than any other sharp blade for me. That being said, in some of those razors the KAI works better (I know it’s less sharp) but it is more forgiving than the feather. In all razors I have found PPC and Nacet work for me. Probably my technique…
I generally shave with a Carbon Cx .68 plate, Blackbird, Yates 921 H, etc.
What razors do you find work well for you with feathers if you don’t mind?
All the best from Philadelphia,
Mike
I strangely didn’t find the Personnas very sharp. They weren’t dull and I’ve never actually tried a crappy blade before to know how bad it can be but I like sharper blades. I was expecting to like the Israeli reds but it just didn’t feel that sharp to me. It was a fairly smooth blade though. Same for the med prep or lab blues I can’t remember if I tried both of those or just one, but had a similar experience.
I’ve still got a couple to test once I’m done testing new razors like the 7 o’clock blacks, the Kai, Indian and Chinese swords and I’m sure a couple I’m forgetting. But what really interest me at this point are vintage blades and I’d love to get a tuck of all the popular ones to test out and see if I can find some winners in there. I know a lot of people love the spoilers. I just don’t know what ones are sharpest out of the vintage ones.
For sharp sharp blades I prefer Nacets. The Permasharps had some drag to them but I have another batch to test out eventually and see if it was just the one tuck I had because I do find variation from batch to batch. The Feathers were good blades but cost three times the Nacet and I think the Nacet may be smoother. I only tried the Bic a couple shaves and can’t remember if I liked it as well as these or not but it wasn’t bad. But oddly some batches of my Astras feel just as sharp as the Nacets but are even smoother.
