The next Rocnel Sailor Adjustable.... Beefy!

Is there much maintenance that needs to be done? Or, just taking it apart to see how the internals work?

I took it apart immediately to make sure I could service it myself. User serviceability is a big, big plus to me. Had I kept it, and used it regularly, I'd probably take it apart for a clean and dry.

I should say, I always keep a can of computer duster to dry adjustables as good as possible between uses...especially the non user serviceable types.

Love the look of this new one.  Having had the older model I’m just hoping that they changed the torque on the spring. With  the last model you really had to be careful when taking it off as it could literally fly across the room!
I’m looking forward to some reviews before I’d jump in but I’m digging the looks so I’m definitely interested.

In my opinion,

His adjustable mechanism is different than other adjustable razors. 

For any adjustable razors, they have 4 main parts: top cap, shim plate, base plate and handle. 

In Rocnel, base plate is stable, shim plate is moving. Basically, when you release the handle, shim plate is moving upward. Actually, it does not have any dial. He put signs over handle and you can see how much you release the handle. By releasing the handle, you are adjusting the razor.
If you put a shim plate in one of your razors, and put a compression spring between shim plate and base plate, you can have similar adjustable mechanism. 

In other adjustable razors, shim plate is stable, base plate is moving. They have a dial which turns opposite clockwise direction of handle. 
And, you do not have to adjust the dial every time, after you change blade.

When you release Rocnel handle fast, the compression spring releases instantly, and the shim plate pushes the top cap, and throw it.
For other adjustable razors, owing to stable shim plate, it is impossible that top cap will fly.

I do not remember Progress and Variant. But I remember Rex and Gillette Adjustable.
I think Rex has stable shim plate and base plate is moving with dial. Dial turns opposite clockwise direction of handle turns.
And I do not have to rearrange Rex's dial whenever I want to change to blade, that is pretty good.  
Am I right?

Here is a photo of how the previous Sailor dis-assembled, using a flathead screwdriver.  The Sailor is a very well put together tool.  I just could not open it up enough...and at some point the "too much" releases the tension on the springs and parts go flying if you are not careful.  The etching did not contrast well either.  It was a very smooth shaver tho, even with plenty of blade feel.  I sometimes miss the Sailor.

I think it releases compression rather than tension, since it is a compression spring and the spring has always under compression coming from handle tight.
If you use one of your Wolfman, add a shim plate, and put a compression spring between the shim plate and the base plate,
you can have an adjustable Wolfman similar to Rocnel sailor.

Compression vs Tension noted. Bad word choice. In either case, I jettisoned parts within the first 2 minutes. Lesson learned, I hope. I needed a warning sticker better than the one provided. I'd never seen an "eject" marking on a razor and found it peculiar....until....

I always wonder someone can come to the market with different top cap options, like more straight or more curved top caps. To play with blade angle.
Also I wonder someone can make an adjustable razor which shavers can move the bars outward or inner directions to play with blade exposure more.
if someone can do all three adjustable (angle, gap, exposure) together, it could be nice toy to play with and get more fun. May be this is just a fantasy.

The head profile looks similar to the last one so I expect it to be very smooth. How well it maintains that thru the gap should be interesting. From the photos across the street, max gap is crazy. For me, the extra weight will probably work out pretty well with increased gap.

Time will tell if it can replace anything I currently run. I really liked the prior version but the ceiling was too low. Murat solved that issue, in grand style.

The non clicking adjustment will require some attention to be able to repeat settings from shave to shave, but I dont think that will be much of an issue.

My expectations are pretty high on this one. It has the potential to be pretty special. I would have preferred a much lower production run than 100...but that's selfishness.

I’m with LOOT on this one and I think this razor is going to be something special. I am a huge Rocnel fan and just about every razor that I have that Murat had a hand in has been something extremely unique and innovative. The last razor he released is the Elite 2019 and I have the A version and it’s one of the smoothest in my stable. Love the fact that you can go bananas on the gap of this new one if you can handle it. Build quality is always stellar coming out of his shop and he seems like a genius when doing some different type of innovative mechanical stuff. The only reason I passed on the last Sailor was because the handle was too short for me but the addition of the lather channels from the B&R Adjustable almost had me buying one. This new one rectifies the handle issue for me and looks so solidly built that it seems totally worth that price tag. I think the shave will be smooth no matter what gap you choose.
