Is my understanding correct that if you drop an aluminum razor on a hard surface the safety bar will bend in a way that can never really be properly fixed?

Thanks in advance for anyone's answer and I apologize if this comes across as denigrating anyone's choice in razor type. I really just want to know.

You don't need to apologize... It's absolutely a good question and hopefully will inform us all.

I'm a fan of Aluminum razors and use them pretty much exclusively. Fortunately, I've never dropped an aluminum razor. Thus, I cannot speak to the potential of damage.

It's my understanding that the grade of aluminum used is rather tough... but so is stainless. Long ago I had a RR game changer that got dropped. The safety bar was bent. It was able to be partially pulled back into place, but it never looked correct.

Hopefully someone can shine a light on this. My guess is, it may be able to take the hit like steel ... with remnants of damage lingering, but not rendered useless? I'll be curious to see what you get for responses.

I've been on the fence about the Glacier color, but in the end I ordered a Bison in black.  At today's exchange rate, the Bison sells for about $88 USD.  I have shaved with four other aluminum razors recently:

  • Overlander - about $111 USD
  • Henson - $69
  • Timeless - $75 (including a stand)
  • High Proof - $120

For me, the Overlander is the absolute steal because it shaves exceptionally well for me, and considerably better than the other three.  Plus like some others, I also appreciate the light weight.  If the Bison shaves nearly as well as the Overlander, I will consider it a very fine value for the money.  Of course there is no guarantee of that, but that's the way it is for early adopters.

I have a brass Overlander and it is amazing. I prefer the heft. I was on the fence because I like aggressive/efficient razors. I was afraid this one would be too mild. I was pleasantly surprised by it and it had just enough light blade field satisfying me, and it's efficient as all hell. I haven't had a bad shave with it no matter what cream/soap or blade I have used with it. I do have a Christopher Bradley also with an SB-E plate which is one of my favorites.
