Neil at Heritage Collection Shaving shipped out the spare baseplate, and I am very pleased to report that it arrived on Saturday while I was away. I was able to use the razor tonight.

It looks super cool. I love the lighter weight and shorter handle length. It does not have the heft or precision feel of the Rex, and it is indeed a bit milder feeling than the Rex. The red dot zeros on either the 2 or the 5, but for the price I can do the simple math to find the right adjustment.

It would be interesting to know how the Rex spring differs from the stock one. Is it stiffer?

If you can access YouTube, a guy by the name of Subie Shaves shows how to tweak the Heritage Gibbs razor, and I believe he shows the springs side by side. I think I have it queued up, but if not, it is at 4 min 22 sec into the video.

I can't seem to get it to start at 4:22.

Has anyone tried a Taiga spring in this Gibbs redux?

Current spring works fine for me. I saw no need to change it at the moment just because someone on youtube said it should be changed. Can always do it if this one fails. Just my opinion.

But, but, if it was on the internet, it would b true?!

And I agree, mine is fine. If the local True Value had an assortment of small springs, maybe. But not for 25 smackers.

I've not checked but pretty sure the 10 spare springs for my Gibbs would work if I needed one too. 10 for @$10 shipped to me but forget where online Happy2

How do the Gibbs springs compare to the replica, out of curiosity? If the same thing, then it should not be a problem, given the originals are still working!

Given the razor price difference, I didn't expect them to be the same and I needed time to disassemble them and take photos. The original is on the left and the Replica on the right. I couldn't find my bag of spare replacement springs right now. The original is taller but the same diameter. I'm not sure of the metal material used in each but would not expect the replica to be of the same strength again given the price point of the razor. The spring works and can be replaced if it ever fails just as the original Gibbs can. They can be sourced in places more reasonably priced just like the ones for the Original Gibbs are is the pont I was making. I see no need to rush and get a new spring for a working razor but that's just me. Big Grin

BowtieRN I just bought one of these secondhand, and I'm noticing the same thing. There's enough play between the parts to throw off the alignment between the safety bar and the edge of the blade. I can get things lined up, but then they move again whenever I turn the adjustment dial.
