Target has 3 Brands of DE Razors on the Shelves!

I was in Target today for the first time since late February.  I was surprised to see 3 brands of DE razors on the shelves.  They had the Bevel DE razor, with a full line of Bevel shaving and facial products.  I was astonished to see an Art of Shaving DE razor with the AOS pre-shaves, creams, and post shave balms.  Also, Target had the VanDerHagen DE razor and blades, which they have been selling for several years.  Maybe DE is making a slow comeback among some of the younger generation.  Since there are so many competing products on the market today, it is nearly impossible for safety razors to become as mainstream as they were in the 1920's through 1980's.  During those years, Gillette DE's and Schick DE/SE's were the only game in town.
In those years, there were not as many choices as there are today.

Bevel and The Art of Shaving are both owned by Proctor and Gamble. Thus, they fall under the same umbrella as Gillette. P&G uses its enormous marketing muscle to place its product lines on store shelves.

I hope those DE razors are at least reasonable shavers.  Nothing turns off a prospective DE shaver like an awful experience when first trying it out.  I suspect a lot of the sales of those ras\zors will be first timers buying those or receiving them as gifts.  We need one of the podcasters to review them.

I'd love to try a Bevel, but at $50 no way. 

I've never been able to find any DE razors in my local target, but I haven't been in one in probably 6 months or so...maybe that has changed since then..

Spending $50 on a Bevel is still a better option than spending $200 on the Heated Razor starter kit by GilletteLabs. Replacement cartridges for that razor are $25 per four. 

Personally, I would not purchase a Bevel razor as I prefer a razor with a more aggressive grip, but the handle is supposed to be chrome plated brass, like vintage Gillette razors. Since they do not claim the head is plated brass, I suspect it is some type of plated zinc alloy. The Bevel is designed to shave level with the skin when shaving with the grain, so it may be a good razor for those who get razor bumps. 

Although the razor comes with Bevel branded blades, it can use any standard DE blades. Thus, I suspect you can get a close shave if shaving ATG with a very sharp blade.

A great Bevel type razor with a .93 blade gap, is available at Squareroot Pascal (Etsy) for only $30 ($35 with great case). I have one of these and it is a great shaver for a very low cost.

I went to Target the other day and saw the Bevel being sold separately and also as part of a set that included a brush, some cream, I think some aftershave, and what not. The kit was pretty pricey (I want to say almost a hundred bucks). Some kid in his late teens who had virtually no facial hair was checking it out. He looked like he could get by with perhaps one pass every 5 days or so with a Bevel. Apparently, if you buy it you get a $25 gift card. His sister was saying he should buy it so she could get the gift card, lol. I resisted the temptation to speak with them.

Incidentally I saw them later heading toward check-out. He did not have the Bevel box in his hand, so I guess he decided against it.

Actually, YaQi made the Bevel and the head used to be on their webpage for like $5.00 a few years back, but I don't see it now.
