taking care of my daily razor after shaving

I used to rinse and then let dry, but when I found some tea staining on one of my Timeless Razors when I went to put in a new blade, I decided I needed to start disassembling my razor. So that's what I do now. I loosen the razor a bit to rinse it, put it aside, finish drying brush and putting away products, and then take my razor and a microfiber cloth and sit down and disassemble it completely drying the blade, and each component separately. Then I'll reassemble the razor partially to keep it together and put it up.

I do dissasemble the razor, after I am done with my shave. I used to clean them with a soft bristle brush every time (evening shaves), making sure I remove soap, but that takes quite a bit of time, so I changed a bit to speed up the cleaning process, especially in early morning shaves. For that, I drop a microfiber cloth in the sink, get hot water and a few drops of Dawn. The dissasembled razor stays there while I clean my brush and put away the rest of the stuff (a minute or so). Then I clean the parts with the microfiber and soapy water, rinse them well and put to the side to dry. That keeps them clean and reduces the detailed cleaning.

I used to leave the blade in the razor after each shave, but then I noticed rust forming on the blade, which stained the razor. (I live next to the sea. The salty air rusts everything very quickly.) So now I take the razor apart after each shave. I dry it with a small towel, and I also dry the blade. Then I let all the pieces sit on a hand cloth for the rest of the day to dry thoroughly. The next morning I reassemble everything and enjoy another clean shave.

Quicker and just as effective for drying blades is to dip the razor head in a container with some isopropyl alcohol. The alcohol will displace the water. Just let them air dry aftewards. It is a trick I use when I shave with carbon steel gem blades. Unlike stainless steel blades you have to remove excess water from them between uses or they will rust. Added bonus if you are germaphobe it will also disinfect the razor head.

I get the cleaning a razor but disassembling it and polishing it between every shave seems excessive. I just rinse mine, shake the excess water off and let air dry with the exception of carbon steel blades. Those get the razor head and blade dipped in isopropyl alcohol between shaves to prevent the blade from rusting. Only time I'll open them up is they have excess gunk or hairs visible on the blade that doesn't wash out otherwise. I only take a toothbrush to them when the soap scum builds up enough they look like the color is completely faded or when I am done using a razor that is going back into storage.

I take the blade out, pat it dry with my towel, then leave it out leaning against the vanity backsplash until my next shave. (4 shaves per blade for me, sometimes 3)

I used to dry the disassembled razor parts with my towel... but a few months ago I bought a Barbicide jar and solution, so now I put the razor head in there until next usage (I still towel dry the handle and leave it out). Good for stainless, titanium, bronze, and aluminum. Maybe others.

Sometimes I also leave the blade in the Barbicide, instead of drying it.

I break my razor down, wipe with a micro fiber, use a q-tip on the female end of the razor [get the threads dry/clean], reassemble and wipe down again with a polishing cloth. The blade is wiped and pressed on a magnetic strip on the wall. 3 uses and tossed. My babies are lined up on the sink, shiny and bright. Yeah, anal retentive . The wife will shift one out of line, resulting in war. Razor Rotation is somewhat strictly adhered to, but the post razor cleanup has not changed in 20 years. Pix soon to illustrate my weirdness.

take the blade out wipe down razor with microfiber sometimes put the blade back in after blotting dry ? depends or put back in paper and make a mark on use
but I also wipe out the inside edge of the soap container and around the threads and inside and top of cap and make sure all the labels are lined up in my cabinet and on the counter the brush logo lines up AS bottle wiped down and wipe down the counter and mirror when done then make sure razor in stand is parallel not at an angle before I walk out etc..

It depends on the razor. If it's a Wolfman, I clean it thoroughly. If it's a vintage, I do nothing until I change the blade...

Well everyone is different and have different ways of taking care of your DE Razors and in general..

What I do after every shave I pad down my razor with nice soft cotton cloth if it’s mirror finished I’ll use silk that’s it.

I always remove my blades mark them on their original wraping paper how many shaves I had to keep track.

I personally don’t Reccomend leaving blades inside of razor and to sit and I say this for many many reasons again YMMV..
